Guestok i just have to share this:
my new boyfriend reminds me so much of danny Elfman it isnt funny!
he has the red hair, glasses, he plays like every instrument and is very very good.(he will never be like danny tho)
he wrote a song for our 7th grade band titled “THE FALLEN”, its extremly difficult to play tho, well the clarinet part i think, its hard for me to go above the octave.
Its bad enough im still learning guitar. i myself recently wrote a song on my keyboard, i dont know what to call it tho! it took forever for me to write. i wish i could record it some how on to my computer so those who are interested want to hear. i might title it “THE BOOK” based on a little Sally notebook which my friend ellysse and i write our “poems” and feelings in, (i wrote one about danny)
or i may title it “THE ROOM” because my favorite room in the house is my old room which is where my stereo is and listen to danny’s music all the time.
well as u can see i was bored so i had to share some things-
—-thank you for reading this anyway even tho u may not care—-March 10, 2004 at 12:00 am #48709Anonymous

GuestHey angelica, i suggest you get Finale 2002 or the new update of 2004. It is the best computer notation software i have seen by far. You can use your mouse to put in your notation and listen to it playback to you in a midi playback. also if you have an electric piano, then get a midi cord and the software and hook it up to your computer and play your song from the keyboard into the actual finale software. its quite interesting and makes things go by much faster. I would love to here what you wrote and what piece your bf wrote for your band. I am now learning how to orchestrate properly for my hs band, lol. keep us posted

GuestFinale??? BAH!
MIDI playback (through your soundcards regular samples) sounds horrible and NOTHING like the real thing. Cakewalk SONAR is a much better proggie because you can use soundfonts, but either way, it’s expensive. Just use whatever you can.
Future: Take some advise from Elfman on film scoring, don’t. It’s practically impossible to make a living doing that because there are hundreds of thousands of people out there who are trying to do that. If you are really into music though, just write what you love and if you happen to snag a slightly good film to score then all the more power to you. Don’t take up films just because you want more on your belt, it’s not worth it (trust me, I have been there). Be picky, even if you are getting paid for it, and just be content with what music you write. If you constantly try to make a ton of money that way, you will never get anywhere, but if you really just love to write music (not for money or fame), you just might get somewhere.

GuestI myself am not a fan of Finale – it’s NOT user-friendly in the least. However, it’s a decent enough program to start out on…

GuestSibelius is better to start with but Finale has more control in its Layout. Check out the latest issue of Keyboard Magazine for a head-to-head review of Finale and Sibelius.

GuestRight, Nat, but isn’t Finale more readily available than Sibelius? All the school music programs I’ve seen have had Finale – so it seems to me that Angelica would have a better time locating a Finale program rather than Sibelius. Then again, I’m not a serious composer. I dabbled a few years ago, so I’ve no doubt things have changed considerably.

GuestThey are both rather easy to come by now, but I remember that Sibelius was always used by all the composers interviewed in CLASSIC CD magazine (most being from Europe). While I grew up with Finale, I did have a friend get Sibelius and I loved the interface. Michael Kamen (I still can’t believe he’s gone) used Sibelius and his site was the first one I saw Scorch (a Sibelius online plugin) being used (check it out at http://www.michaelkamen.com).
