I rented Nacho Libre on Netflix the other day and I was really surprised over how fun the score was.
Maybe Thor can attest to this, but there were some great Oingo Boingo flourishes in the score, something akin to the Little Gun’s saxophone solo after Nacho and his annoying friend go traveling on his bike. Plenty of fun, ethic stuff to go around.
What’s more surprising, however, is that they kept anything that Beck wrote, or that the director actually preferred the Beck material.
Elfman’s skill level is so monumentally greater than Beck’s. It’s like hearing John Ottman trying to complete with William’s Superman themes. The respective tracks in Nacho do not mesh well at all.
