Man, i’ve seen this movie twice, and i really don’t think ANYONE (at least in my town) can sit freaking still through the first half of the movie due to some serious defective ADD disorders — each time theres been kids talking, and the parents let them, cellphone conversations (honey, i’m with the kids, i’ll call you in 10 minutes), guys next to me fidgeting and snorting and fumbling with ther popcorns (as if they’re like nutting for a fix of marijuana or something), kids running down the stairs banging on the walls and stomping the floor (mimicking HULK)…Is there really ANY way to watch this movie about an huge angry guy with people in PEACE? Apparently NOT.

Despite all the BS of opening weekend, though, it was A GREAT flick up until the ending…and i really didn’t UNDERSTAND the whole father-son relationship until i saw an interviw with Nick Nolte concerning ANG LEE’S source material — you have to think of it as a Greek Tragedy — Gods and Monsters –Prometheus, specifically. If you look at it in that frame, then you can get the whole “battle of the titans” thing, and the lightning in the clouds (Zueslike comparison), etc, and maybe even stand the ending a bit (which people didn’t really seem to warm up to when i saw it, they left saying it was too slow and it sucked, but then again, we’re dealing with a generation of people with SERIOUS ADD problems). It took 2 viewings to get it, so if you left the theater feeling down about the ending as i did, a 2nd look might improve your judgement…all i really wanted was him hitchiking in the end….

The music was great, but i noticed they subdued the Middle Eastern textures of his music in the film a bit…especially in the scene with the helicopters in the desert, when they’re bringing him to the base…the female singer is practically nonexistent in that cue. Oh well…

Ditto about the rude moviewatchers. It was awful when I saw it because there were quite a few kids in the audience and I swear to god, they did not shut up for half a second. They were just chatting away the whole time, and their parents were probably ignoring them – – it just sucked because they never once tried to quiet their kids down, and I was too interested in the movie to go get an employee to help shut them up.

Oh well, I’ve had worse . . . I’ve gotten into big arguments with people about talking during the movie, and once I saw two groups of people get into a fistfight over the same thing and security had to take them out in handcuffs.

Courtesy, even if it’s just about shutting up during a movie, is a lost art.

I usually try to avoid these big-budget, PG-13 rated summer blockbusters for that very reason. I hate kids. Even ones my own age (I am only 16, but can’t tolerate anyone under 19).

As annoying as it was hearing them talking through the first have of the movie, I do have to admit it was a bit slow. I don’t think the story really got moving after the prologue until his first transformation into the Hulk. After that, the movie was great.

I thought the comic book editing help speed up what could have been a boring first third.

By the way I Loved the flic. Ang Lee was the right person to make the movie, any other would have made it a mindless romp.

I agree totally. The first time I saw the film, it was dead quiet which was great. The second time it was a midnight show and some dumb-ass in the front row kept shouting out things after a pivotal moment which really disrupted the dramatic weight of the scene. Luckily he shut up for the second half since I was ready to HULK OUT on his a** if he persisted.

It’s really quite disconcerting how the general public has such rotten attention spans though. This movie is a perfect example. I didn’t think the first half was slow. it’s called EXPOSITION folks and it’s something that most “blockbuster” films from the past few summers have scrimped on big time. Does anyone remember the original Superman movie. It took 1 full HOUR before Superman is revealed and does his superfeats. I was 10 years old when I saw it in the theatre and I loved it. I loved the fact that I had to wait to see some amazing scenes and I quite enjoyed the Smallville material even at my age then.

I knew The Hulk was severely mis-marketed. I’m just glad I haven’t seen it with a bunch of noisy kids running around the theatre. Mind you, I got that with Finding Nemo…sigh.

BartNfink, I agree with you about kids our age . . . I’m 18 and ever since I was about 13 or 14 have despised teenagers. They tend to be the second biggest problem for me at movies, right behind parents with noisy kids/babies. Heck, it’s even worse than people with cell phones.

I also think that the film’s pacing was perfect – – no slow parts. I think every movie is better if you just sit back and relax and enjoy the freaking thing. People almost treat movies like a chore when they complain about the pacing. It’s not about getting to the next big action scene or the end ASAP, it’s about the journey and the entire experience.

Movie going is one of the many reasons I detest children! I agree with the whole movie theatre problem. My favorites are the mentally-challenged parents who bring their infants to screenings of movies like The Exorcist at midnight and such. I didn’t like kids when I was one, either.

Don’t so much mind anyone who actually goes to a movie to watch the movie and all–but nowadays, that’s a pretty novel concept….But I suppose if ever there were a movie in which to show rage and anger upon the ceaseless movie distractions, this would be it!

I had the same problem when I saw it, but when I loudly asked the worst offenders (a group of teenagers, probably around 14 years old) to shut the hell up, everybody in the theater was pretty quiet after that. I’ll tell the person myself first, only if they persist after that will I get a manager to throw them out.

I had a similar problem. I don’t see why people will drag their 5 year-old children into a movie that the obviously don’t understand or want to see. There was a kid directly ehind me kicking my seat and yelling with his mother in the middle of the movie!

The movie I didn’t like. The plot with his father was really screwed up, and it totally got lost in the end with the electro-monster-thingy. I’m glad that Danny Elfman scored it, otherwise it would have been a complete waste of time!
