i used to listen a burned cd of the nightmare before christmas (yeah i know, but i don’t have credit card and it’s almost impossible to find it in Beligum in stores for a reasonable price).
Well finally, i managed to get it and i noted a difference between the two versions : the original cd contains 20 tracks. My old burned cd contains 21 tracks (the end credits is splitted in two parts).

So is there two official albums ? Or maybe it’s just a matter of us version/european version.

    Please answer me; i can’t sleep anymore !!! :D

Hmm… well, have you actually put the “Original” CD into your CD player and looked at the number of tracks? Because if you’re just looking at the Track Listing on the back of the CD pamphlet, only 20 tracks are listed… however, the CD itself (or at least, the one that I have) IS 21 tracks long… like your burned CD, the credits are split into 2 tracks.

So check that out. If there still seems to be a further discrepancy, write again!

hun hun, 20 tracks only (end credits in one part).
But now that i look closely, i don’t remember seeing the mention “disney original sountrack” (written on the background, behind the cd holder) on the original cd i used to make the copy and which is present on mine.

Then I’m baffled. Are the total running times of the 2 CDs the same? Mine is 61:18.

In that case–unless anyone else has any more inside info–I’d conclude that all of these versions in question are probably exactly the same, regardless of whether the credits are one track or two.

But hey, while we’re on the topic of NMBC and the soundtrack: have you noticed that the CD version of “Poor Jack” (track 16) is a completely different recording from that used in the movie? Danny’s inflection is quite different from version to version. I wonder why they didn’t just use the movie recording for the CD? Perhaps Elfman was not satisfied with that first version, and wanted to try it again for the soundtrack?

yeah, i prefer the cd version, much more powerful….but maybe it would have been a bit “too much” for the movie, too wild in regard of the scene’s tone. By the way, “Poor Jack” is for me the best song of the score… :)

It’s one of my favorites too. When I was in college, I took an acting class in which one of our assignments was to pick a song (any song) that had a clear progression of emotion… we were to take the lyrics and use them as a monologue (not sung), but still with the same power that the songs themselves served. Guess what song I chose? Poor Jack! Try speaking the lyrics as a monologue sometime… it really IS still very powerful.

(P.S. It’s so fun being Jack… one Halloween I created a Jack costume… complete with Zero!)

The version with the end credits split into two tracks is the original version, I believe, and is the soundtrack that I own.

My brother recently got the soundtrack at the NMBC store at Disneyland, and his also has the “Disney Original Soundtrack” on it that you mentioned, while mine does not. I believe that it’s just a newer printing. It’s probably got the tracks combined.
