GuestWow, peter pan is definitely the most inspiring story for a composer. It’s magic, beautiful and dark at the same time, and don’t forget the “pirate action”…
I know John Williams’ Hook will always remain as one of the best pirate-score, and that a lot of people love Debney’s cutthroat island, but… an Elfmanish peter pan… wow… i just can’t stop dreamingDecember 9, 2003 at 8:57 pm #47073Anonymous
GuestI’m really looking forward for the JNH score…

GuestMan, it’s amazing, I just posted THE EXACT same thing about two months ago (see in the archives)!!!!!!
I totally agree with you. I have composed myself a Peter Pan suite for piano, with elfman-inspired harmonies…
I can’t wait to hear JNH’s score…Eric

GuestYeah but is not Hook one of Spielberg worst film ? When i listen to Williams’ wonderful score, it’s impossible to tell it. And yet…
So i hope it will be the same for JNH music.December 9, 2003 at 10:26 pm #47079Anonymous
GuestHook, the movie, IS a classic, maybe not critically, but for most of us who have fond childhood memories of it, we will always treasure it along with Spielberg’s other gems, BANGARANG!! ahem

GuestLet’s just get it out right now: A Danny Elfman ANYTHING score would be great to hear. We do this too much…

GuestCorpse Bride and Willy Wonka will be really okay for me but if I could wish for one, I would want to hear an Elfman war score… The ones I know are excellent, Saving Private Ryan, Schindler’s List, Medal of Honor, MoH Allied Assault, and Moh Frontline

GuestWow… an Elfman war score… that would be pretty awesome!! Imagine with that, we get a Tim Burton war picture… it could be one of the most mind-boggling movies ever.

Guestaccording to the book and the trailer, Big Fish should have some war in it. would elfman let a war scene go silent? NO! i expect it should have good music in it.

GuestI loved “Hook.” One of my favorite early adolescent movies, in fact
I don’t care for war movies of any sort – fire at will (haha!) – so I doubt I’d go see an Elfman-scored war flick.-E

It did – and Elfman’s music was quite cool.

GuestI’m resurrecting this post now that Peter Pan is playing. I must say that it was one of the most horrible movies I have ever seen. Jeremy Sumpter should be banned from Hollywood and locked in a box. I do believe that ILM was slacking off with this one as well. As for JNH’s score, it wasn’t bad. I am a fan of his work, but this one wasn’t all that original. It had some stuff that sounded like his work, but a lot of cues sounded like portions of Pirates of the Caribbean and Harry Potter (which this movie looked like a combo of, with some bad taste thrown in). I did like the choral, stringy main theme followed by the brass thrown in, but otherwise, nothing really special. Had Danny Elfman scored this, even with a good score, it would bring him down…such an awful movie!

Guesti hear you – it’s so bad that they’re shamelessly promoting it AD NAUSEUM during Saturday morning cartoons…we’re talkin EVERY commercial break. That’s pretty desperate. Hopefully, it wasn’t as bad as the Cat in the Hat – which i had seen for Bo Welch’s art direction, and also which still sucked major ass. I’m glad Pan sucks – this keeps “Hook” in top form.
