Guestnext to danny elfman, actually just below, ive got alan silvestri at the top of my list of favorites. So anyhoo i was at the movies this past week, gangs of new york i believe, and i see a movie poster for the pirates of the carribean. PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN!!!!!!! this is only the greatest dark ride in all history! not to mention the poster with a skeleton at the big wheel of a ship was a kick ass poster in itself. then i notice johhny depps name as the lead, and just as im about to piss myself, i see alan silvestri as composer. i couldnt hold my glee in any longer and went ahead and wet myself. but then the bad news, A Jerry Bruckheimer Production. DUN DUN DUN….. He better not ruin this. anyhow silvestris score should rock. gimme some feedback on what you make of this strange, wonderful, and sad combination of people

Guestagreed, a strange combo indeed. Pirates is an awesome ride, Johnny Depp always makes good role choices, and Silvestri won me over with both the abyss and forrest gump, but Bruckhiemer makes extravagant crap. this will be a tough one………………….

Guestarmageddon was dreadful but the score for that film was among the best if not the best of 1998, i predict silvestri’s score will be similiar to the mummy returns w/ a few dashes of predator mixed in to give it that pounding bruckheimer sound to meld numbingly w/ the grinding sound effects, should be good

GuestEr…Bruckheimer…man, can’t stop thinking of “Black Hawk Down.” Not my kind of fun. Sorry kids, don’t really get into the whole patriotism-in-movies thing (a la “Armageddon”). Johnny Depp as a pirate…hm…could be good. (I really liked him as Roux in “Chocolat,” but not so much in “Crybaby”). Alan Silvestri…could be very good! Let’s hope ol’ Jerry boy doesn’t throw this one where he did “Armageddon!”
-E (whose 2nd favorite “big time” composer is Silvestri…)

GuestJust because it’s a great ride doesn’t mean that a movie “based” off of it is going to be great.
I’ll be honest, I probably will go see it, mostly because I’m a relatively new Johnny Depp fan and haven’t seen his gorgeousness on a big screen yet (and Orlando Bloom, the yummy Legolas guy from LOTR is also in it – – he’s not bad either). But I have my doubts. It’s no secret that Country Bears flopped, and I don’t think anybody has high hopes for the Haunted Mansion ride. Of the three, I think that this one shows the most promise, but I’m not going to get excited.

GuestJohnny Depp was snazzy in Edward Scissorhands–I don’t think he could ever top that movie in my book. And, skulls are always good–so top notch choice for marketing there! I’ll give it a whirl–sounds like a decent ride and all….

Uh-Huh…?
I think they should resurrect Bernard Herrmann so he can use his awe-inspiring skeleton music from Jason and the Argonauts.

GuestThis one, I’ll see. I avoided Country Bears, and I just read the synopsis for Haunted Mansion, so I’ll avoid that too. Which is really too bad, because I LOVE the Haunted Mansion RIDE. I usually travel its hallways a dozen times (not exaggerating) on a one-day trip to Disneyland.
