ParticipantI’ve listened to the suite from “Polar Express” by Alan Silvestri and felt that the main theme sounds much like “Edward Scissorhands.” My beliefs were confirmed when my mother, a big fan of ES, said that she’s not impressed with Polar Express because it sounds like ES. Anyone else heard it and agree?

GuestI do, when I heard it this morning I thought it WAS Edward at first… but then it was a bit different. Alan Silvestri, huh? Hmmm… I thought his other stuff was great

GuestFrom Daily Herald:
Alan Silvestri, who composed the signature music for Zemeckis’ “Back to the Future” trilogy, should hope Danny Elfman doesn’t sue him for purloining his exquisitely evocative score to “Edward Scissorhands.”

Is it true…?
I was waiting for this score… I like many of his scores, Mummy Returns, Judge Dredd, The Abyss, Van Helsing, BTTF…November 22, 2004 at 2:53 am #52827Anonymous
GuestCmon, other than the use of glocks and the choir, it sounds nothing like ES. I’d say it resembles The Mummy Returns more so than anything.

GuestDon’t be so paranoid.
Elfman just took a stereotype sound and made it into a tune.
Silvestri did the same thing.
I’d say the “sound” of ES is public domain anyway, since it wasn’t excalty invented by anyone.
Silvestri did a fine job on the score as did Elfman back then. There is no need to be jealous. - AuthorPosts
