There is a percussion instrument that is fairly prominent in a couple of Elfman’s soundtracks and I’d like to know if anyone knows what it is. In Spider-man’s Main Titles, it comes in right in between 0:29 and 0:30. The second occurance is in the percussion solo at the end of Titles Revisited from Men In Black II at about 2:32. Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

Do you mean that fast clicking sound? That’s a high-hat. Or do you mean that wooden sound on each downbeat? (I’m talking in terms of the Spidey track, here). If you mean the wooden sound, then it’s either a large woodblock, perhaps played with a soft mallet, or it could be a South-American woodblock (different shape), or a temple block. If it’s none of those, then it’s probably one of Danny’s favourite ethnic percussion samples. If it’s the latter, then you’ve got some research to do ;)

I’m talking about the one on the downbeat, but yeah, you’re right, it sounds like some kind of wooden block. Anyone else got any suggestions?
