GuestI read in todays paper that Brett Ratner’s option on the SUPERMAN movie has expired, so he’s moving on to… RUSH HOUR 3. Apparently the casting woes are what has held everything up.
Guess that ends any potential Elfman involvement.

Guestis there ever any positive news regarding the next potential “Superman” film, or is it just one destroyed hope after another, and an elfman superman theme wud be so so sweet

GuestBut there are alot of other potential Elfman collaborating directors who actually could do the film someone like Taylor Hackford would be a choice, why not?
I do think that except for the Rush Hour movies he will continues to work with Danny and by the way why not letting Danny to make a cameo in Rush Hour 3 that would be nice to see

GuestI know that the last thing I want is another Elfman superhero score . . . bring on the lush romantic stuff, like Black Beauty, Sommersby, Edward Scissorhands, etc.

GuestI agree.

GuestI strongly disagree, sure you may get those powerful moments of unrestrained choral power w/ the romantic stuff but the action and motivational themes arent as postive or uplifting such as spidey or batsy, and the flash wich is perfect to get ur blood pumping and morning started btw, and I think elfman who is aproaching the big 5 0 should go back to his early 90’s action scoring technique so he can still pump out some good material before breaking down mentally from a mid-life crisis dispensing low volume dramatic sleep muzak, cuz bridget fonda looks a little flaky to me, but thats besides the point, ok no more coffee for me thank u

GuestI can’t help it . . . movies like Spider-Man, Darkman, and even the first Batman just felt CHEAP and shallow to me. I absolutely ***adore*** Batman Returns, but other than that, I have a hard time liking his superhero music.
Scores like Black Beauty and Edward Scissorhands, on the other hand, just break my heart with their beauty. Batman Returns too
((Yeah, there’s a few dud tracks in there, but the rest of the stuff just kills me. God, now that I’ve started thinking about it I can’t stop))March 24, 2003 at 10:49 pm #44492Anonymous
GuestHope Danny won’t repeat Spider man or MIB

Guest“…bring on the lush romantic stuff…”
Who says Superman can’t be lush and romantic?

GuestOK … BATMAN, BATMAN RETURNS, BATMAN-THE ANIMATED SERIES, DARKMAN, THE FLASH, SPIDER-MAN, MIB, MIB2, probably SPIDEY 2, and now THE HULK! Maybe they should get John Williams to do a new SUPERMAN score (the Richard Donner film, I think, is still his best score EVER!!!) or someone completely different, but let’s not have Danny Elfman do EVERY comic-book score!!! That could get real old … even if Elfman is the best in the biz … which he is …

GuestWhat if it was Jerry Goldsmith who was said on the Superman DVD commentary to have scored the orginal first since he only scored The Shadow

GuestNext to Danny Elfman (and perhaps Hermann & Steiner) Jerry Goldsmith is my favorite composer BUT I don’t think he’d make a good Superman score. His music is too “descriptive” and 3-dimensional (see POLTERGEIST and THE OMEN for good examples.) Supes needs a dynamic and fast-paced, yet superficial and 1-dimensional score. Williams is the guy for that!!! Danny Elfman could do it (but ya’d think he’d be all superheroed out at this point) I always saw Elfman as Batman’s Composer of Choice. When ever I see Superman, the John Williams SUPERMAN MARCH is the first thing I think of. The same with Elfman for BATMAN!!! SPIDER-MAN … I think of that nifty 60’s cartoon-jingle …”Is he strong … Listen, bud … he’s got radioactive blood…” (Incidentally, Goldsmith provided a pretty decent score for Supe’s cousin SUPERGIRL in 1984! His music for that was ethereal and pretty … even the dynamic stuff had this fairy-tale type enchantment to it … but unless Superman’s wearing pink underwear on the outside instead of red … I don’t think “ethereal and pretty” is what you’re aiming for …) Williams music is as synonomous with SUPERMAN as Wagner’s was to SIEGFRIED!
