ParticipantI recently managed to watch the pilot of the CW’s new show “Reaper.” I was interested mostly because Kevin Smith directed it and I’ll watch anything he works on, and the promo clips looked pretty intriguing. The episode itself was pretty funny and it looks like it could be a really good show.
Anyway, I post this here because the pilot, like all pilots, featured temp-tracked music, two tracks of which were from Danny Elfman that I was able to identify: “Hounds of Hell” from “Hulk,” and “The Chase” from “Sleepy Hollow.” There were some other cues in there that I couldn’t quite place, but were definitely Elfman’s work. And it was perfect, as in Elfman’s sound matches this show perfectly, and the cues were chosen very well. He definitely should write the show’s main theme, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he has already been pursued by the show’s producers. If anyone is able to, try to track down the pilot (it’s floating around the internet) and give it a listen.

KeymasterDoesn’t this show star the guy from that awful show that was cancelled on FOX? THE LOOP I think it was called. I can’t stand that guy. An apparently neither can America!

ParticipantI never saw “The Loop,” but I thought Bret Harrison was quite likable and relatable in his role on “Reaper.” Tyler Labine was the one I felt was a bit over-the-top as the sidekick, but you can really tell that Kevin Smith tweaked his dialogue to shift him from a Jack Black to a Jason Lee (“Mallrats” Jason Lee, not “Underdog” and “Alvin and the Chipmunks” Jason Lee). But it all comes together pretty well, especially with the really great VFX and the “Dogma” vibe it has thanks to Kevin Smith (there’s also a rather gruesome scene that definitely has the View Askew influence).
