GuestLately I’ve see alot of movie trailors that have reused some of Danny’s older work… aka: Big Fish… Is that because the score was not complete when they made the trailor? Thoughts?

Guestthis is one of those questions that never dies…
it’s because when the trailer is being put together, the scoring sessions are usually not finished – (scoring the picture generally happens late into post-production). everyonce in awhile an exception will occur, ala MIB and, i believe Mars Attacks! .. both had music written by Elfman specifically for the trailer.
but, the majority of the time, when you’re watching a movie trailer, you’re hearing music from other films.December 4, 2003 at 7:21 am #46994Anonymous
GuestAnd if you’ve seen the new trailer for the 3rd Harry Potter movie then you heard a song by John Williams written for the film. When there is a song being performed in a film (not used just as source music) then, it is prerecorded, hence it needs to be composed before the actual filming. This is what happened, of course, on Nightmare Before Christmas (so the NBC trailer contained the movie’s actual songs). Incidentally, the opening for the NBC trailer was John Beal’s knock-off of Williams’ Hook main theme.
Bringing John Williams and Danny Elfman together,

GuestSpeaking of that trailer, that song is awesome!
It sounds just like the song in Little Demons called Come Along. I hope that melody carries on to the Harry 3 score.

GuestThat’s EXACTLY what I was thinking when I heard that song in the Harry Potter teaser… “Come Along”!!

Men In Black was not done yet. The music you were hearing was from Demolition Man. It sounds alot like the music from MIB but really it isn’t. It was written by Goldenthal — remember, the guy who helped ruin the Batman franchise?

GuestHey, Goldenthal didn’t help ruin the Batman franchise! His scores were easily the best part of those movies.. Joel Schumacher, on the other hand…
Burt (come to think of it, Goldenthal seems to excel at great scores for shitty movies – the Batmans, Final Fantasy, etc.)

GuestGood Point…
But let’s compare him to Elfman.

GuestSpeaking of LOTR the latest trailer for Return of the King has material from that movie arranged specifically for the trailer.
