KeymasterOkay so I only managed to see NIGHTMARE 3D once today. It was sold out all Friday and Saturday. I managed to get into the Saturday 4:45pm show which, naturally, was rammed.
The presentation is great, sound was fantastic. There was an issue with projection — the theater was projecting the feature as a “widescreen” or “scope” picture, where NIGHTMARE is actually a “flat” ration (1.85:1 or 1.66:1), meaning a lot of heads were cut off. Imagine Sally and Jack singing to each other in the finale, only seeing Sally from the shoulders down! I don’t believe that Disney would release the film in an anamorphic print as it’s a radically different composition than the original NIGHTMARE format. I’m not sure if this was a unique fuck-up at the theater showing NIGHTMARE or if anyone noticed this. I didn’t let it ruin the show for me, but I did let the management know about the error (hoping it wouldn’t ruin the fun for others).
Anyone like to share their thoughts?

ParticipantThanks for giving away the end. Sheesh!
I’m jealous. I wish I could see this.

ParticipantIt was in the proper ratio when I saw it! Sorry that you got a bum projection of the picture.
I thought it looked and sounded great. The audio got a pretty serious remix from what I remember and the score was nice and loud.

KeymasterYeah the score was more prominent, and I even picked out stuff I had never noticed before, like the Mayor’s motif… Which coincidentally was highlighted in the latest Film Score Monthly podcast!

ParticipantJust got back from seeing it, and I still can’t believe that the movie wasn’t originally made to be a 3D feature. The 3D was pretty sick, but it was the sound that stood out the most to me. I loved the surround sound they did for the re-release, and the score and songs were fantastic. Hearing Danny’s music and lyrics with such great quality really made the experience awesome for me. Plus, seeing that I was 4 when the movie came out and my parents had no interest in taking me to see it (and at the time, I probably didn’t have any either), it was nice to finally be able to see it on the big screen. Fun time, and cool new glasses for me!
