Try not to miss this month’s British Film Institute magazine, “Sight and Sound”… There’s a wonderful big feature about filmmusic, and they talk about Danny Elfman a few times. Anyway, the whole of the article is amazing, covering all sorts of music for films, from the classics like Bernard Herrmann to the more electronic composers like David Holmes and the magazine has a free CD featuring a selection of Nino Rota’s stuff.

Is anyone London-based and can recommend a retailer that I can’t miss? Would Oxford St HMV have it?

Don’t worry – found it at Borders. If you’re after Elfman-related material from it, though, I think you’ll be disappointed. Yes, there’s a paragraph rhapsodising over Batman, but the rest is really general film music related stuff. don’t get me wrong, though – there’s a lot in there, including various quotes from film makers and composers about the importance of film music to them. Unfortunately neither Elfman nor Burton contribute.. unless I missed it.
