I was watching a 1997 episode of the Simpsons on Fox, about a character called Poochie being added to the Itchy and Scratchy show. In about the last 5 or so minutes, there is a scene in a recording studio, and I swear there is a brief shot of a character in the studio who looks exactly like Danny Elfman. He has red, receding hair and thick black glasses, and he’s wearing a pink dress shirt and slacks. If anyone can locate this episode, give it a look. I’m not an avid Simpsons watcher, so for all I know he appears regularly. Or maybe I’m just stupid.
I don’t ever watch the Simpsons, so I couldn’t tell ya. That means that this is probably my most useless post ever, so I think I’m gonna stop typing now. Sorry. There’s no reason for me to keep writing this, but for some reason I can’t control myself now. Hopefully I can control myself enough to not press “Post”.

Hmmmm…. I happen to have the episode on tape (big Simpsons fan) and am looking at the paused image right now… it certainly looks LIKE Elfman, but I don’t think it was intended to actually BE him. Whenever Simpsons does celebrity cameos, they usually make it pretty obvious; it wouldn’t merely be a quick flash for less than a second. I’ve been watching the first few seasons of Simpsons on DVD with commentary, and the various commenters say that, often, those types of “extras” in the background are modeled after the show’s producers or family/friends, as inside jokes. So who knows… maybe there just happens to be a guy on the Simpsons crew that looks like Danny Elfman!!
I’ll check my tapes of the simpsons tonight. I wouldn’t be surprised!

Is not Danny Elfman *technically* a Simpsons crew member? He is listed on the credits of every episode, and he must get some sort of attention for creating one of the most recognizable TV show themes ever!

I guess we’ll just have to wait until the Simpsons Season 8 DVDs come out and listen to the commentary: “And that red-headed guy in the pink shirt is Danny Elfman!”
Would anyone have an image that they would be able to link to of this Elfman look-alike? I barely watch the Simpsons, but this person sounds interesting…*chuckles and smiles* It would be interesting to see for myself. Of course, if noone has it, that’s fine with me as well.

If someone could tell me if it is possible to link a TiVo to a computer, I could be of service (that is if the episode ever came on again).
