Well, Joe Carnahan is directing. So if the Carnahan follows suit with his composer, than Cliff Martinez will compose. Though, I’d like to see Shirley Walker score.

I’m disappointed that David Fincher is off the project, which probably would have meant that Howard Shore would have done the score. That would have been interesting.

i really like when a series of movies has the same composer or at least similar themes.
good examples of this include harry potter, star wars, jurassic park (don davis used some of the original themes in 3), and men in black.
bad examples include batman 3 and 4…i need not say more.
though i must say that john ottman’s x2 had a better newer theme than the still great x-men.
though my hope probably wont be a reality, i hope that mi3 will be scored by elfman.

If it helps the movie then a different composer is needed in sequels, especially when the director is different and the movies are drastically different in tone, like MI and MI2 – it should all depend on who directs it, and how. Some great examples of a series not containing a returning theme or style are the Planet of the Ape films, and the Alien series.
