GuestI was checking news over at SuperHero Hype, and a scooper said that he had seen a scene between Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy (big news for comic fans) and he had heard the music and it was “fantastic.” I’m not quite sure if this person is talking about a song played, or perhaps a taste of the score. Sam Raimi hasn’t exactly been one to put music other than musical score in his films. The link to the article is posted below, let me know what you think this person is talking about.

GuestProbably a temp track. Elfman has not recorded his score yet. The film isn’t in theaters until July!

GuestIf it’s a temp track, then what is it that this scooper liked so much? Anyone involved with the production of Spider-Man 2 wandering around this board?

GuestThis scooper probably has no idea what music he is hearing, only that he likes it.

GuestYeah, he’s probably just heard music from another movie at this stage.

GuestIt’s possible that temp tracks of music from the first Spider-man film were used.

GuestThe first SPIDER-MAN score was recorded in early February 2002 and the film itself came out in early May. 2.5 – 3 months in advance is generally a little early to record a score, but it was necessary 1) because they wanted fresh music for the promotional materials including the soundtrack album and 2) because Elfman had to get going on another Columbia movie, MEN IN BLACK 2, which was due out in July.
SPIDER-MAN 2 comes out in July of 2004, and the ‘promotional material’ issue isn’t as pressing as music for the trailers can be taken from the first film, as it has been already. I would guess that SPIDER-MAN 2 won’t record until early May or so, but that’s really just a guess at this point.
I like the score for the first film, but am hoping for something a little more challenging this time. The “action music” was fun, but honestly, kind of standard for Elfman. I do love the Green Goblin theme (which I’m guessing will be absent from part 2). The heart of the score was really the tender Mary Jane music, and I think that’s where Elfman really showed that he was the best choice to score the movie.
As powerful as the first BATMAN score is, I must admit that I greatly prefer BATMAN RETURNS, which took only the main theme from the original, really, and twisted it around several new ideas into something much more interesting and complex. MEN IN BLACK 2 didn’t really have that approach — that score was more or less Elfman doing fun varriations on a few themes from the first film’s score: Very appropriate when you consider that the film’s script was just a subtle reworking of the first film too. It’ a little too early to tell what kind of sequel SPIDER-MAN 2 will be — a virutal remake of part 1 or, like X2, a much better, more confident movie now that the director’s shackles have been loosened. Lets keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.

GuestAbsolutely. Spider-Man 2 is going to blow every movie ever made out of the water. Based on the trailer, photos, the incredibly experienced and professional crew and cast, and the immense $200 million budget that it has, Spider-Man 2 will be perhaps the biggest movie to be made in a while.

Guestit’s too bad that Spiderman is going to excel where the Hulk tried and failed. Then again…if it gets too slow with all the drama…

GuestI actually liked Hulk more than Spiderman. I thought Hulk was ponderous, thoughtfully paced, well acted and weird. Which is far more provocative than Spiderman was.

GuestHey that’s what i thought, too…I actually hope spider man 2 goes that way…

GuestWell guys lets hope that Danny hasn’t recorded the score yet, i feel he needs the time to really sit down with the movie and write soemthing that will completely knock us out of the water. The first movie showed us how Danny could write soemthign that was so completely versatile that supremecy could never be matched. So i am hopeing the next one will be more dramatic in tone and dynamic contrasts. So again i really hope he hasn’t recorded it because i think he needs more time to wriet soemthing better than before
