GuestI heard a nasty rumor (admittedly from a not-very-reliable source) that John Williams will be “helping” Elfman out with the score for Spiderman 2… writing a love theme, orchestrating some of the songs, stuff like that. Anybody know if there’s ANY truth to this rumor? It just does NOT sound like something Elfman would see happening.

GuestSounds like one of those time-saving collaborations, like Don Davis did for Williams on Jurassic Park 3. Doesn’t impress me, really…but i wouldn’t be surprised.

GuestNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! …ow…my finger hurts! How much I think ol’ man Johnny is very good, I just think a lot of his compositions are naff! No offence to anybody!

GuestIf it is true (and I really doubt it is), I don’t think it’s a very good idea because their style clash.
I like both, but for different reasons.
This just sounds like some fanboy speculation, that’s all.
And besides this movie hasn’t even been shot yet, so any scoring changes want be made for another year.

GuestSounds like bullsh*t to me. Really, why would anyone believe this?

GuestIMDB.com lists bill conti as the composer for spidey2 using danny elfman’s themes, who knows it might be good…

GuestNone of this is true.
I mean, come on people!
Williams is writing some new material for the next HARRY POTTER film, and William Ross (conductor of BEETLEJUICE score) will write the rest of the score based on Williams’ themes.
Of course, no matter how many times I refute bullshit rumors, it doesn’t seem to matter — no one around here believes me. They’d rather believe completely hilarious stupidity like BILL CONTI scoring SPIDER-MAN 2!

GuestWell, in a nutshell, i’m gonna spank it this way — i don’t give a pig’s ass WHo gets called to do the tuneage. But i WILL tell ya this much — if it ain’t Elfman, and they bring aboard a new director and new composer (as might actually be the case, or if Raimi gets a wild hair you-know-where and brings aboard someone OTHER than LoDuca) you can bet your box o’ rubbers i won’t buy it. I can’t even TELL you how gyped i was when Batman was handed to that gaylord Schumacher (freaking nips on the batsuits, ass close-ups galore, cod pieces the size of Volkswagons, and the colors…my god, the COLORS). If anything, Raimi might do what he did with Army of Darkness — Elfman will do a theme or something, and someone else will do the major stuff.
My question is this…why don’t they just start using BArtek as a suitable replacement like they did on NOVOCAINE? Even Shirley Walker is good enough.
Wether or not it’s all conjecture — i hate always bending over for sequels.September 4, 2002 at 12:25 am #41794Anonymous
GuestIf Raimi’s going to direct than Elfman is going to do the score.

GuestI hope that is true Lucas…, I mean Eram Sacul, but it’s not all that simple. What if Elfman has to choose between doing a Spider-man movie or doing a Tim Burton film, then he might do what Dobbs suggested – writing themes and letting someone else use theme ala Debney on “Enter you own selection here”.
It’s all about timing, but if Elfman is not doing it then that will probably be the only reason.
Nat who watched Cabin Boy on DVD today!

GuestI really doubt that anyone but Elfman will score Spider-Man 2. But if anyone else does, i wont buy the score! Elfman is a master, Williams is good too but for a different reason. I’d much rather listen to Elfman than Williams any day of the week.

GuestAll I ask for is for whoever scores the film to use Elfman’s original themes from the first film ( The Spider-Man Theme).
Elfman is of course my first choice, but if not him all I want is Thematic Musical continuity thats all I ask for.
