Everybody talks about the Elfman / Burton relationship as a perfect match between composer and director (like Bernard Herrmann and Alfred Hitchcock or Angelo Badalamenti and David Lynch). We all know it is. However, after reading recently an article about a wonderful artist called Pablo Ferro, I have to say that it’s a shame we never talked about that man in this board! If there’s a perfect match between music and visuals, this is this one: Elfman and Ferro. Who’s he? Simply one of the most brilliant and requested main titles designer in the business, a cuban who started his career with Stanley Kubrick, designing the “Dr. Strangelove” and “A Clockwork Orange” titles and who worked in several Jonathan Demme movies, like “Stop Making Sense” and “Something Wild”. He created, designed and directed some of the best Elfman-scored title sequences, with images and music working with unforgettable results. Pablo Ferro is the artist behind the titles sequences from “Beetlejuice”, “Psycho”, “Good Will Hunting”, “Men in Black”, “Men in Black II”, “To Die For” and “Darkman”. The handwritten font he created for “MIB” is one of the coolest ever made (and it looks a bit like the amazing handwritten fonts for the “Dr. Strangelove” and the “Stop Making Sense” title sequences). Check out his official site, with lots of samples: http://www.pabloferro.com. Man, this last part sounded like a cheap spam message. It is not! :-)
