GuestI read in an article about Tim Burton yesterday that his “next project” (presumably before even Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) will be producing the stop-motion animation feature The Corpse Bride. I’m not sure how accurate the article was, but since the reporter did an interview with Burton around which most of the article was centered, presumably that bit of information came from Burton himself. I was under the impression that The Corpse Bride had kind of been put on the back burner, and I hadn’t heard anything about any plans to actually make it in the near future. Can anyone confirm this?

GuestWell, it’s being directed by Mike Johnson (famous in the animation scene for an extraordinary short called “Devil Went Down to Georgia), from a script by Caroline Thompson (from a Russian folk tale), and produced by Tim Burton. It will be entirely stop-motion animation. Animation HAS begun in London. A friend of mine, and one of the last stop-motion animators in the business, Anthony Scott (who also worked on Nightmare), is in London right now as head animator. This film should be out by 2005. Should be magnificent (and even more so if Elfman is scoring it).

GuestHey, Dylan – do you know where in london it’s being animated? I live in London, and it’s likely to be no more than an hour away from me – I’d LOVE to see if I can make a visit.

Guest“The J,”
I’m not sure where, but I know it’s at an animtion studio. Since stop-motion is so big in Britain (Aardman and the like), I’m sure the animation is being done at a very important animation studio. When I have time, I’ll check some past e-mails and see if my friend ever mentioned the studio where the animation is being done. I doubt that they would give a guided tour, but if you can get something like that, that would be wonderful.

GuestThe Jay,
I have his old e-mail address, which doesn’t exist anymore. It’s also been a REAL REAL long time since I’ve spoken with him (the last time was at least a year ago, one of his friends in LA told me about what he is up to with “Corpse Bride”, though he had been talking about it for a while anyway). What you should do is post on his website, http://www.stopmotionanimation.com (must regester first), say that you heard Corpse Bride was filming in London (from an anonymous tip) and ask what studio it is and if you would be able to receive a tour. The best of luck, I really, really hope that you are able to get a sneak peak at the puppets and meet the extremely talented animators behind all of this.
