ParticipantNot really Elfman related… but cool none the less…
The Star Wars DVDs came out today. I did a real quick check-up on them after I bought the pack. Over all they’re pretty good (the quality’s phenomenal) but check out how Return of the Jedi ends now! Good things are in the CDs though. For instance, they put a little teaser in there which really waters my mouth for ‘Revenge of the Sith’ which comes out in a couple of months. The prequels won’t match the originals in nostalgia but they sure are nice to look at.
Also (and this is my pride and joy)…
Stephen King has at last finished his damn Dark Tower adventure novels. It only took him getting hit by a truck to realize putting them off wasn’t the answer. The last of the books came out out today and I, being the big dork I am, was the first in line to buy my copy early in the morning. I mean, that’s over 30 years of writing.
I have to tell you this… I haven’t started reading yet… but I’ve already fallen in love with these illustrations. Man. The guy who did the original paintings for the first installment (The Gunslinger), which was released ten years after it’s conception back in the early eighties, [the artist’s name is Michael Whelan, by the way] has come back full circle for the finale this year. Holy shit. If you appreciate Tim Burton’s style you may appreciate this guy’s eye.
I’m actually thinking of tracking down poster sized versions of the paintings in this book just for the hell of it. Next time you’re in Wal-Mart or something flip through a copy and tell me if I’m right.
So yes. I had a productive day.

ParticipantPrecisely eight. Haha.
I didn’t want to say a year. It’s too depressing.September 22, 2004 at 6:12 am #52408Mr. Dantz
ParticipantThey’ll do the same exact thing once Revenge of the Sith comes out on DVD, you know. Then you’ll have to buy it again.

ParticipantI have this great scheme for when that happens. I sign each one of my prior DVD sets “George Lucas” and then travel around to different pawn shops in the area hocking them for flamboyantly high prices.
That way I can fully enjoy the latest releases.
