Guestwent to an advanced screening of “The In-Laws” the other night and was pleasantly suprised to hear a bit of elfman mixed in with the rest of the score, no joke, probably a temp track or god knows what. during the final wedding scene the main titles from “good will hunting” are heard, it was so unexpected and odd yet entirely fitting for the scene, elfman’s thankfully credited with “titles from will hunting” listed with the pop songs used in the film, all in all it was very odd

GuestThere is no composer listed on the poster for THE IN-LAWS, but a highly touted soundtrack with “classic” songs by Elton John (blech), etc. So perhaps there was no original film music written…Just licensed tracks.

GuestI’m debating on whether I should pick up the “THX-1138” soundtrack CD. It’s a limited edition and kind of expensive. Anyone hear have it, like it, loathe it? Help a brother out.
On that note, I just got the expanded version of Trevor Jones’ soundtrack for “The Dark Crystal”, a two-disc set. Disc one has the original released (edited) and sounds good, but disc two with the full series of cues sounds… uh… like it was off the DVD with the dialogue and sfx stripped off. There’s considerable hiss too.
Just a heads up.

GuestI would recommend it if you like other 70’s Sci-Fi scores like Omega Man or Logan’s Run (both released by FSM). Scores like these are GREAT in those specific moments that they need to be, but dated most of the time. If you grew up in the 70’s or watching (and loving) 70’s films on TV, this score is a no-brainer purchase (like the aforementioned Logan’s Run).
That’s what I thought about the “Dark Crystal” release as well, especially since the twin-flute piece on the lake had all the cricket and frog noises on it like the Isolated score on the DVD. Still, it is nice to have a “legitimate” release of this wonderful 80’s score.
