GuestI would like to know what peoples lists are of favorite Boingo albums. They went through so many different styles and sounds and people have different opinions about when they were their best (or just their personal favorite sound). Most people say they hit their peak with the album Dead Mans Party. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE and own every Boingo album, but Dead Mans Party is one of my least favorite. I feel that Only A Lad is bar none the best Boingo album. What are your opinions?

GuestOh, man, BOINGO without a doubt … without – a – dout.
It’s too bad they didn’t put “Skin” and “When the lights go out” on that album (Boingo), because they were so great, and they were on sort of a stinker album (in my opinion).
2nd best is Good For Your Soul.
July 6, 2004 at 8:14 pm #51068Anonymous
GuestGood For Your Soul was the first of their CDs that I owned.
Still remains my favorite.
Then #2 Boingo
#3 Only a Lad
#4 Nothing to Fear
#5 Dark at the End of the Tunnel (I wonder why there is such a dislike for this one. Even when it first came out, at their concerts, a lot of people would sit down as soon as they started playing a DATEOTT song. I love the horns on this album.
They’re not as upbeat as the first three albums and although I love the Boingo album I missed the horn section.
#6 Boi-ngo
#7 Dead Man’s Party-beth

GuestBoingo
“Insanity” and “Change” alone make it the best IMO.July 6, 2004 at 8:37 pm #51070Anonymous
GuestI think there’s a dislike for Dark at the End of the Tunnel because it was so much more mainstream than the rest of their stuff. I love those first two songs, though.

Guesthere’s my list:
1. Only A Lad -I love the excitement on this disk! It’s the sound of a band not afraid to be edgy
2. Good For Your Soul – I LOVE little guns! What a great song!
3. BOINGO – The dark beauty. Insanity is pure genius. I do not like Ped. Wolves though. The song is weak in my opinion. Does anybody like that song?
4. Nothing To Fear – This album was recently in Entertainment Weakly as one of No Doubts favorite albums. Interesting. I’m not a fan of Islands, but Wild Sex is one of my favorites.
5. Tie – Boingo Alive, Farewell – Both live albums with tons of their greatest songs revisited.
6. Boi-ngo – Does anybody know how to pronounce this album title? boy nnngo?
7. Dark At The End Of The Tunnel
8. Dead Mans Party
9. So-lo Danny ElfmanJuly 7, 2004 at 5:22 am #51081Anonymous
GuestNah, ernthead, I really don’t care for pedestrian wolves either.

GuestWell, I know it seemd weird but I think my favourite will always be DARK AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL. I know it is not pure Boingo madness, but it was an inetresting step, and the album is full of different shades…
If I had to place different “eras” for the boingo evolution, it would be :
from the 70’s to 1978 : The Jazzy Era
from 1978 to elfman’s So-Lo album in 1984 : The Crazy exentric Era
from 1985 to 1990 : The New Wave / Melodic Era
And finally, in 1994, the Dark / Beatles-like EraIf I had to choose one song in each era, these would be St James Infirmary, What you see, We close our eyes, and of course Insanity…
July 7, 2004 at 10:02 am #51087Anonymous
GuestWell, I’ve always thought Insanity was just a great mixture of all their styles crammed into one, sorta’.

GuestFavorite albums: tie between Boi-ngo and Dark at the End of the Tunnel. Yep, I”m a fan of synthpoppy new wave
“We Close Our Eyes” on the Farewell album is, by far, my most favorite song of all time.-E

Guestthe live verson of We Close Our Eyes is absolutely amazing. Hey E, how do YOU pronounce Boi-ngo?
July 10, 2004 at 8:14 am #51137Anonymous
GuestI can’t really voice my opinion very well on this subject, having only one album (BOI-NGO), but I really enjoy that album. My favorites out of it include:
* Pain – Easily relatable
* New Generation – NICE lyrics!!
* Home Again
* Where Do All My Friends Go
* Not My Slave
* We Close Our Eyes – hideously catchy
I want to hear Insanity so badly!! *searches for more Oingo Boingo albums*
Oh, and I pronounce BOI-NGO as ‘BOY-‘n-GO’ It sounds just plain wierd if you say it over and over again…o_0

Danny went commercial. He deserved the Money. However,
he started getting bored with old boingo and changed many
lyrics at live concerts.The rest are Okay. I own them however. The band had lost it’s edge. The best poster I’ve seen is an old poster of the Mystik Knights and their Biggest Fan
Robert Deniro.Best Tribute by Danny. The nightmare before Christmas. Oogie Boogie was the perfect knock off of the Devil from the Forbidden Zone. Thank You Danny.

GuestWhat?!!!! my message was supposed to have a name in it! why does it do that?
r o b e r t d e n i r oJuly 12, 2004 at 4:17 pm #51168Anonymous
GuestYes, that was the Actor. R o b e r t. I saw posters for auction a few years back. Danny’s Hollywood connections go back to at least the late 1970’s.
Way back then Deniro was respected, but it was before Cape Fear. If you remember how bulked up he got for that movie. I can only imagine if he was slammin to Boingo. I will never know.
I’ve been trying to find a sight with a link to that old poster, I haven’t been able to locate it. That poster was late 70’s, classic punk style.
