GuestI just watched the movie last night, and I think the soundtrack to this movie is one of the best I’ve ever heard. It’s so great! I just can’t believe there’s not an official release of the score. Anybody it will be released any time in the future?

GuestUm, is this Hans Zimmer’s board?

GuestOh, come on. It’s not like I’m spamming the board with hundreds of non-sensical Hans Zimmer posts every day. I know this isn’t a Hans Zimmer board. Most people here listen to more than just Danny Elfman, so I thought someone would know something about the subject. Besides, what else is there to discuss about Elfman at this point? His height? Sheet music? No thanks.
I remember the people on this board being more friendly about a year ago. It was just a nice little community of people who like film music, and wrote about things besides Elfman. I guess it’s not like that anymore.

GuestWell said, Dantz.
Knight, did someone piss in your cornflakes this morning or what?
Seriously man, lighten up. We’re usually pretty civil to each other on this board, and I see no reason why it can’t continue to be that way. As Dantz remarked upon, there’s not really that much going on in the world of Elfman these days since he decided on his two films a year thing, and people who like Elfman usually like other film composers, so what’s the big deal?
Relax.

GuestWell, I think you took that wrong. What I MEANT was it would be a better idea to ask Zimmer fans about this than Elfman fans. Yes, we all listen to other composers, but if you asked this question on a Zimmer board, those people would probably be able to give you a better answer. And yes, someone did piss in my cornflakes this morning (damn dog).

GuestUnfortunately there is no official release for THE RING.
Mr. Dantz, if you listen to composers besides Danny Elfman, try the message board at http://www.moviemusic.com to ask these types of questions. I don’t mind the ocassional off-topic film music post, but your questions can always be answered with a little footwork.

GuestOk. I read somewhere, though, that there was going to be an official release in Europe some time. I haven’t found this info. anywhere else, though, so I guess they were wrong…
Anyway, I guess I’ll try to keep the topics related to Elfman from now on.

GuestDantz: Did you know that Andy Patalan, Jim Dooley and Henning Lohner wrote
some of the music? It’s not all Hans Zimmer’s work – it’s Media Ventures’. I don’t know if these guy are even credited…
Anyway: You can download some (short) clips from The Ring (written by Dooley) at: http://www.jimdooley.com/media/ring/Nin

GuestSince when is there any sort of official decree or even taboo on talking about other people besides Elfman? This is Ryan’s Board and it’s his will that matters. People usually mention other things, but it is true that for some reason those posts don’t seem to make it very far.
Is there an isue with space or something? I mean, Elfman’s or anyone else’s music is judged by all the other things that we know, so I don’t see why we shouldn’t talk about it.
All of the times I have mentioned other composers, the conversations are taken elsewhere…usually e-mail. It’s too bad, because despite the occasional slow period on this board, I haven’t found anywhere that has this many people constantly talking about whatever comes up. And most of the time related to Danny…March 10, 2003 at 12:02 am #44322Anonymous
GuestKnight:
Point taken. Sorry for overreacting.

GuestYeah, I guess I overreacted a little, too. Sorry ’bout that. No hard feelings?
Thanks for that link Nin Cherry. At least I’ll get to listen to SOME of the tracks (that’s not enough. I need that awsome high violin theme, dammit!!!)

GuestActually, I’m thinking that the score to The Ring is one of those compositions that work so well with the movie, that it’d kinda seem outta place on its own, you dig?
So maybe that’s why it’s not being officially released (not that I’ve heard one way or the other).I mean, it sounds all eerie and saucy in the film, what with how the score itself is very circular and all, and everything just comes together–but I don’t think I’d enjoy it away from the film.

GuestWell, if you get the DVD, ripp the music off of it (but you can’t during dialouge scenes, otherwise half of it is dialouge. I remember when I went to see Batman for the second time. I brought a tape recorder and recorded the whole thing. I did this so I could hear the movie at first (I was only 7 at the time), but it ended up that I would play back the main titles over and over, not even aware of the impact Danny was having on me. My point? I guess there isn’t one, just something funny I thought I would mention.
Knight (Who isn’t mad, it did sound kinda mean. He also wonders if any of the other composers have a discussion board with so many regs on it)

Guestfor everyone’s information, the hans zimmer website lists the ring soundtrack as “not yet released.” “not YET” implies it will be soon. the site even shows a fake cover for it. that’s a good sign! at least, it better be released soon because I will go crazy if I don’t get a good recording of that song she sings by the well. Ooooh, it’s so creepy!! I must have that song in my posession!!!! If they don’t hurry up and record that freaking song, then I will do it myself!!!! ( with mr. zimmer’s permission, of course.) By the way, who’s Danny Elfman?

Guest“By the way, who’s Danny Elfman?”
He’s that demented old man that smiles at you every time you visit the site. He wants to know your name and your secrets.
The Dantz (Tell me your secrets that no one should hear. Whisper them softly into my ear. I won’t tell. I won’t tell.)
