I’m not quite sure what all this business about a Hollywood strike next summer is all about, but it’s causing the movie studios to prioritize their projects, and therefore there’s a list that’s been going around saying what directors are attached to which high-priority movies. Among them is Tim Burton, who it says is attached to direct “Spook’s Apprentice.” Has anyone heard of this before? For anyone who’s curious, here’s the list:

“The Spook’s Apprentice (American title: The Last Apprentice: Revenge of the Witch), written by Joseph Delaney, is the first story in the series “The Wardstone Chronicles” The plot is centred around a 13 year old farm boy named Tom who lives in the countryside of The County (Although some readers theorise Ireland, as this is where the Author was born, but it is believed that it is around Lancashire, due to the references to Pendle hill) with his large family. He is the seventh son of a seventh son which, in County tradition, allows him to see things others cannot such as boggarts, ghasts, ghosts etc.”

Sounds interesting – perhaps Burton is thinking of pulling a Peter Jackson.
That sounds insanely familiar. As in, wow there are a lot of fantasy novel series about similar things getting adapted into movies (Harry Potter, Golden Compass, Dark is Rising, Spiderwick Chronicles, etc). Maybe Burton can put a fresh spin on the genre?
