GuestDear readers,
I recently watched Mission Impossible again. I was stunned by the quality of Danny Elfman’s scoring work. I have been a fan for a long long time, and have all his work. My favorite was always Edward Scissorhands, but after seeing MI, and daily listening to the score, I have come to realise that I like MI score the best. I would like to hear your thoughts on this matter.
Greetings,
Onno

Guestthe entire scene on top of the train ranks as one of the most memorable action scenes of the 90s, Zoom A with its intense fury as Jean Reno appears and flies the chopper into the tunnel then Zoom B serves as the backdrop for Tom Cruise jumping onto the helicopter then blowing it up! very very cool

GuestMission Impossible is among the movies of all times together with THE MATRIX & BATMAN [excluding part III & IV]…I`ve never been tired to watch it over & over again & if I have to be honest I watched it again a couple of days ago
Such an incredible movie deserves such Filmmusic & altough I don`t find the Mission Score as attractive as PLANET OF THE APES, I consider that it is not bad..not at all

Guestjust watched the whole MI for the first time today, great music! the movie as a whole was like james bond: no plot whatsoever but great action (i must agree, the train scene was awesome with CGI way ahead of its time). nice to hear an adaptation of a great original theme like that.

GuestMission Impossible is probably my favorite score as well. I also believe that it really has been overlooked as one of the best Elfman scores he’s released. It is, indeed, so very versatile and complex. I can imagine that Elfman’s put just as much thought, imagination, and talent into Mission Impossible as he has with any other fan favorite (Edward, Nightmare, etc.).

GuestWell, I love the music to Army of Darkness, just because!
I’ve yet to make it all the way through a movie staring Tom Cruise, though, saucy music or not. (Nothing personal against Cruise–he just doesn’t act in the kind of films I tend to watch).

GuestOnno, I`ve never had a chance to listen to the ARMY OF DARKNESS but if I succeed in finding it I would…But if You are such a MI_Fan what do you think of “MI-2 [Score]” by Hans Zimmer…This is aslo one of my favorite besides Elfman`s productions

Guest…which raises the question: MI-3 is currently getting started, but who will score it, elfman or zimmer? or someone else?

GuestLOL……..I love going on the highway while listening to “Trouble” with the voulume all the way up

GuestHey y’all,
I see I started up quite a discussion. To LCM: “Trouble” is one of my favorites, especially when the nostalgic MI theme kicks in. To all Zimmer fans: Zimmer rules,
His best works in my opinion are: Backdraft, Gladiator, The Rock and Crimson Tide. Elfamn is still my favorite because Zimmer seems to reincarnate a lot of his own work… I love to hear your thoughts on Hans…Greetings,
O

GuestOne of my favorite Zimmer scores is Driving Miss Daisy, and I also love the Gershwin-like main title he wrote for The Critic. I consider his Orff inspired score for True Romance to be a guilty pleasure.

GuestHave you ever heard the Orff piece that the score for True Romance was based on Sleepy? It’s from a set of percussion pieces he wrote for children.
