GuestSaw Big Fish a few days ago and was pleasantly surprised becaused I was afraid it would be a disappointing mainstream romantic comedy (like what happened with the Coen Brothers and Intolerable Cruelty). It took me a while to get into it because it wasn’t very Burton-like, but it eventually won me over.
But it also got me thinking of what kind of movie Burton should do next (after Willy Wonka, of course) and I came up with this idea for a movie called “Harliquin”. I decided that Burton should do another film for s that is very dark and very violent. This plot idea might also sound really stupid, but keep in mind, despite being very dark and very violent, it is meant as a comedy.
The idea . . . Alright, so in some big city the police are investigating a series of ghastly s that they assume is the work of a serial killer. This serial killer stalks his victims while masquarading as a park mime. A special FBI profiler-type guy is brought in to catch the psycho killer, and to do this he will have to immerse himself in the bizarre subculture of professional clowns (I know there are clown colleges out there, so there must be some kind of subculture somewhere). Problem is, the FBI guy has a horrible fear of clowns (maybe his wife was ed by a Gacy-type birthday clown killer or something). So he has to face his fears and catch the killer and numerous bizarre things happen along the way.
Yeah, not the best idea. But with Burton directing and Elfman scoring (it would be one kick-ass Elfman score, I don’t think anyone could disagree with that), who knows?
Let’s see what the rest of you can come up with.

GuestSounds like something Eddie Murphy would be in.
Did anyone else suffer through Haunted Mansion and endure lines like, “The ghost-ball was Elizabeth!” Eddie Murphy should have quit while he was ahead.

GuestSorry to ruin your fun, but there’s a film already in production using a concept very similar to what was mentioned…it may now be in post-production. It’s even titled “Fear of Clowns.” A friend of mine happens to be doing the score…he’s no Elfman, but he is still quite good.

GuestI’m not giving out my ideas because i’d rather they didn’t get “borrowed.” That clown thing sounds like it would make a weird flick, but i don’t know…It reminds me of that Goldthwaite movie “Shakes the Clown,” clowns are funny, but that movie seemed to capture all of the qualities you dont see every day…I’m fond of seeing “weirdos” on the screen – love it – but eh…With Burton having a kid soon, it doesn’t seem like his frame of mind is geared towards visceral gory thrillers…He’ll probobly end up having a brainfart and make all these childish flicks again for his kid….

Guestand your idea isn’t unlike Batman Returns, either…just replace the cop for El Batto and there you have it – Tim’s already done it, even if for only a scene or two….But he should make more clown movies…hell ANYBODY

GuestYeah, it’s not one of my better ideas. Like tumbleweed said, there’s a great possibility for story-theft online, so I would never post any of my good ones (and I do have good ones, don’t judge them all by that one).
What I’m trying to say is, because both Big Fish and probably Willy Wonka are kind of heavy on the whimsy (not that there’s anything wrong with that), I would like to see Burton do something a little darker.
Eddie Murphey!?! I’m insulted. It was a bad idea, but not that bad. (I was thinking more along the lines of Gary Oldman). And the way I picture the movie, it’s not a whole lot like Batman Returns or Shakes the Clown. It’s more like Se7en with more circus elements. Maybe Fear of Clowns will pull it off.
Anyways, the point of this topic was to hear what everyone else thinks would make a good Tim Burton movie. Let’s hear some of your ideas.

GuestI believe Burton should do a porn film, especially if he’s already filming Britney’s video…

GuestI would love to see Burton do a really complicated Vampire movie. Hell, I would love to see my script-in-progress become a Burton! *Sigh* Not as much as my Tim…. my friend Tim. She’s directing it (her nickname coming from Burton, anyway). Really interesting vampire plot line, puts a twist on most of your typical movies and een uses original vampire lore. Gypsies, venom, stuff like that. It leans on the Burton style, since we’re all Burton people. And the score is heavily influenced by Elfman and Alan Silvestri. Hmmm…. I wish we had good cameras….

GuestBurton should make another movie. That’s all I ask for.
And by the way, I liked Intolerable Cruelty.

GuestIntolerable Cruelty wasn’t bad, I just thought it was below the Coen Brothers’ usual standards.

GuestNo no no, BartNfink… The movie you’re thinking of is “O Brother Where Art Thou”. (Although I haven’t seen Intolerable Cruelty yet, you may be right.)

GuestO Brother Where Art Thou wasn’t their best, but I liked it more than Intolerable Cruelty.

GuestWell what I need to say is he needs to get Michael Keaton and Michelle Pfeiffer to do another Batman and Catwoman flick you know. Batman Returns was great and the end just pissed me off. Catwoman lives (everybody could tell) and all of a sudden she’s not in the Batman series anymore. WTF with that man. We need another Batman movie by the movie making wizard Tim Burton. I want to know what ever happened to Selina Kyle. I also want to see Michael Keaton as Batman again because he was the best Batman so far. Val sucked and so did George. Keaton is the best. And back to the Catwoman subject, Michelle is the only actress for the job cause of course she was the best Catwoman. Halle can go blow a goat. Well yeah that’s all I got to say.
