GuestSo, the other night I was up at a late hour doing nothing except wondering why I wasn’t sleeping (as usual), and The Dilbert Zone came on. The theme began to play, and I started thinking “hey, this sounds like Danny.” I sat there for a few minutes watching the show and then like a bat out of hell it hit me that he DID write the theme. I guess I forgot for a second.
I’ve come to realize that he writes quite a few TV show themes on occasion, and it seems like nobody ever really notices/cares/talks about them. Well, it is my intention with this post that we can all discuss our favorite Elfman TV themes.
From what I know, these are what he’s written:
Tales from the Crypt
The Simpsons
The Flash
Dilbert
Stainboy
Beetlejuice (cartoon)
Weird Science (?)
Pee-Wee’s Playhouse (I think?)Anyway, after writing that list, I can kinda see why we never talk about them too much (because there really AREN’T as many as I thought, for some reason). But I came this far, and I’m still kinda curious to hear what ya’ll have to say. Oh yeah, and let’s try to refrain from talk of The Simpsons as much as possible.
My personal favorite is Tales from the Crypt.
Oh yeah, one last thing. Let me just use this space to quickly express my love for Hans Zimmer’s theme for “The Critic”.

GuestI’ve always loved the theme for Tales from the Crypt–it was one of the first Danny tapes I bought (yeah, that’s right–I’m old enough to have cassette tapes). Music for a Darkened Theatre wasn’t the first–but it was one of the ones I bought a long, long time ago.
I’m rather fond of Stainboy, as well. Reminds me of Mars Attacks! and such–which in turn, reminds me of all those great old science fiction movies. Which is odd, because Stainboy isn’t sci-fi, but it fits there, as well. I’m stopping now, because I’m not making any sense–and it just gets sad when even I don’t know what I’m saying.

GuestI thought Shirley Walker did the music for the Batman show…didn’t she? Danny’s theme for Tales from the Crypt does in fact rule, but I’d like to go on record as saying that Jonny Quest has the best theme song of all time. Thank you, and good night.

GuestWell, I must say that the Simpsons…
just kidding. Hans Zimmer composed the Critic theme? Cool! Anyways, about Batman: The Animated Series, He did compose the music for the main and end titles, I believe. Good stuff. “Family Dog sounds strangely familiar, and I’m not confusing it with “Family Guy” (a hilarious show). Any more stuff for TV? Who knows?

GuestNo, Danny didn’t do Futurama.
Am I the only one here who’s favorite of Danny’s television themes is The Flash?

GuestMy favorites: Perversions of Science and Dilbert (actually an arrangement on the theme from Zone).
