    They both come from RollingStone…

The first one is that Gus Van Sant is working on a script for an HBO film about Kurt Cobain called “Lost Days”. I wouldn’t mind Danny doing a small score like this (after all he says he’s tired of doing big summer action movies) like he did for “Freeway”. The smaller movies seem to bring more experimental practices from him, and I think it would be cool to see another completely self-produced score (guitars and all).

The other note of interest from this April 15th issue is that the Distillers have “put their stamp on the Spider-man theme for the sequel” (direct quote from RS). My question to this is… Why? It will just take away time from Danny and the End Titles (remember the old theme being played at the very end of the movie?).

It would be interesting to see an Elfman-scored Cobain biopic – if that’s what you were indeed referring to, Nat. However, I personally wouldn’t see it simply because it involves two artists whom I hold very dear. I wouldn’t want to have to make a judgment call between the two of ’em…too emotionally involving.

Well, Van Sant didn’t use Danny for Elephant or Gerry, so I doubt he will use him for a small HBO biopic, but anything is possible. The song thing with Spider-Man 2 doesn’t surprise me, of course. Likely Elfman will compose an End Credits, like he did with Big Fish and the first Spider-Man, but like those two it probably won’t be in the film in it’s entirety, but will get on the album.

Yeah, Sam Raimi said in a interview around the time that FOR LOVE OF THE GAME came out that he doesn’t really care for songs in movies, and therefore I don’t think we really have to worry about much. Even the first SPIDER-MAN really didn’t have many songs in it. I would guess that the song content will be about the same: A few of them here and there at transition moments, and then three or so crammed into the end credits.
