I’m a huge Cronenberg fan, and by defeault, have turned into a Howrd Shore fan as well.

So I’m wondering. Why did Michael Kamen do THE DEAD ZONE, and not Shore. Don’t get me wrong I love the score, and I think it’s probably the best score for a Cronenberg movie, but why Kamen over Shore? Ideas? Theories? Or am I just SO out of the loop that I should be ashamed for not knowing.

    Perhaps our man Ryan knows….

I think it that was that THE DEAD ZONE was Cronenberg’s first studio film and at that point he didn’t have the pull to hire his own composer, and Paramount wanted Michael Kamen.

I kind of figured as much too, but it’s always good to get a second opinion. Since were on the topic of composers missing from their directors films – I always wished Elfman would have done Raimi’s QUICK AND THE DEAD. Can you imagine an Elfman western?
