Guestwell? elevator man for me
May 11, 2003 at 10:40 pm #45028Anonymous
GuestI don’t think I could pick just one.
But probably either…”Capitalism”, “Can’t See (Useless)”, or “Mary”. And that leaves out so many classics. This is too hard!

GuestI really love Water… also Change. And I don’t know if I’ve ever even seen War Again mentioned on this discussion board, but that one as well is one of my personal favorites.
May 11, 2003 at 11:37 pm #45033Anonymous
GuestInsanity is my all time favorite! Water (excluded from Boingo) is pretty dam good, too, as well as Mary, Change, and just about everything else on that album. I also love Private Life and their version of I am the Walrus.

GuestIt really depends on my mood. A lot of people down the whole Dark at the end of the Tunnel CD, but sometimes that’s all I listen to. Other times I just listen to Dead Man’s Party CD…if I’m in a particular mood. Or Boi-Ngo if I’m feelin bouncy.
But an overall song? Can’t go wrong with We Close Our Eyes. But it’s always subject to change at a moment’s notice…Maybe it’s Little Girls now….or elevator man…why just one?

GuestI agree with Jo Elfgirl. It depends on my mood. It’s awesome how one group, and/or Danny Elfman, can “satifsfy” all my moods.
However, if I had to pick one song, it would be We Close Our Eyes. No wait…make that Spider………….no, make that Skin……. or is it Gratitude….. no, it’s Just Another Day, Go Away, Hey, Stay, Elevator Man, Winning Side, Only Makes Me Laugh…………Insanity……………………..
AAARRRRgggghhh. I can’t do it, sorry.

GuestTough choice for me as well. But since I do have to make a choice, I’ll say : NO ONE LIVES FOREVER !
To me this is the most dynamic and enjoyable song that’s ever been written by anyone.Slightly behind it I’d say “Try to Believe” (Danny’s voice on the last verse is amazing), and “Afraid”, and “Something isn’t Right”. It’s a pity the latter two were never released on regular albums.

GuestNot My Slave!! good or bad mood its always great!!!

GuestI’ve always thought “Little Girls” was a masterpiece.

GuestSqueezir – yeah, Danny’s voice on the last verse of “Try to Believe” IS great, in my humble opinion. (BTW, I’m talking about the “Dark at the End of the Tunnel” version, NOT the “Midnight Run” version. Yeah, the “MR” version…let’s not talk about that…)
My favorite Boingo song of all-time: the Farewell version of “We Close Our Eyes.” Gotta love that accordion…not to mention the fact that I’ve always loved Avila’s back-up vocals on that version
I’ve always wanted to hear it performed live, but it looks like about a snowball’s chance in hell of that ever happening…However, here’s my “top favorites” list:
“No One Lives Forever”
“Stay” (okay, okay, it’s controversial – at least amongst the Boingo fans I’ve talked to, and the video IS a little…goofy, I guess you could say…but it’s still one of my favorites)
“Skin”
It’s good to finally post something; I’ve been gone for quite a while!

“Try to Believe” (Yep, I’m a big fan of “Dark at the End of the Tunnel”)
“Dead Man’s Party” (the perennial favorite…makes for great “cooking” music, and it also gives the dinner guests something to reminisce over!)

GuestHands Down-“Lightning”. My boingo tattoo seems to burn a little when I hear it!
May 13, 2003 at 7:06 pm #45072Anonymous
GuestWell, there’s nothing particularly unlikable in the Midnight Run version of “Try to Believe”. The biggest difference is the female choir during the chorus. It’s not unpleasant. It reminds me of the song “Same Man I was Before ” in Dead Man’s Party.

Can you realize the luck you have to have guests who actually _know_ Oingo Boingo ? I had my girlfriend listen to “Afraid” yesterday and she asked what this poor band was. I told her to notice Danny’s wonderful voice and she replied she hated it because it was too high-pitched.
The more I think about it, the more I come to believe that I’m the only REAL Boingo fan in France. I’ve had genuine Elfman and filmmusic fans to listen to OB but none really got into it.
I think even ‘Jack Torrance’ is more an Elfman fan than an OB fan. But I may be wrong, and I hope I am !– Squeezir.

GuestWell, I got into Boingo through Elfman’s film music. Heck, I got into film music through Elfman

Squeezir – it’s not that my friends “know” or “remember” Boingo…more like we reminisce about growing up in the ’80s and early ’90s. I played “Dead Man’s Party” one evening, and we all got to talking about favorite childhood movies. Of course, that brought up NMBC, which led to Elfman/Burton collaborations, which THEN led to Elfman and his “other” music…and FINALLY ended up with a few others’ vague recollections of hearing “Dead Man’s Party” as a very young child. No, I’m not so lucky that my entire social circle is made up of hardcore Boingo/Elfman fans…but I suppose I’m luckier than most in that at least 2 others have heard of the man and his work.
“I had my girlfriend listen to “Afraid” yesterday and she asked what this poor band was.” To be perfectly frank, I heard the version of “On the Outside” (the original on “Only a Lad”) and couldn’t believe that it was Boingo. I guess I’m not THAT hardcore; I still prefer the later Boingo (“Good for Your Soul” and later)…

Guestno one mentionned “fool’s paradise”. God, this chorus is so powerfully serene !
May 15, 2003 at 9:14 am #45082Anonymous
GuestI like “Fool’s Paradise”, but to me the first verse is absolutely wonderful while the second is “just” good, which makes the song rather anticlimactic. Maybe that’s just me.

GuestHey, yeah, “Fool’s Paradise” IS a good one…

GuestI got into Boingo thru Elfman’s film music too. The first time I saw NMBC I was just blown away by the music (not to mention Danny’s freakishly sexy voice!) From that point on I was hooked.
As for a fave Boingo song: Spider, Not My Slave, Private Life, On The Outside, Long Breakdown, Winning Side, Just Another Day, Clowns Of Death…I could never pick just one. They’re ALL my favorite.
And what IS it with fans dissing DATEOTT?
