ParticipantI leave my house to go buy the score for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory because i thought it was going to be released today! Instead i come back with a ticket from the train police for fare evasion that may cost me $250 and the Triplets of Belleville DVD(thats not bad)! My question is WHERES THE FREAKIN’ SCORE! I went to two different stores and they both didnt have it! I know it cant just be the stores in Hollywood! I hope all of you got it ok but if any of you had the same experience(well, it wont be as crappy as mine) what happened to it? Its supposed to come out today right?

ParticipantOh Elfmanguy, I feel your pain brother. I first went to get it at midnight at the Virgin Megastore…nope. Tower Record’s nope. I got up this mornin’ went to 2 more stores…nothing. Then I tried Best Buy, shit out of uck there too. (Same thing happened to me with Spiderman 2). Right when I was about to put razor to hand, I called Borders Books….thank f-ing GOD they have it. I tell you, it was worth the effort. So, if you have any money left…try Borders.

ParticipantHey bro! Im glad you found it but where do you live? Cause thats exactly where i went to! Borders in Hollywood and they didnt have it! Strangest thing! Maybe ill call again! But im happy you found it!

ParticipantI went to the one on Sunset and Vine in Hollywood. Hmmm, that sucks.

ParticipantIt took me Best Buy, Walmart, and finally Mediaplay (only place that had it) to get it. When I asked at Best Buy, they said it would be there in the next few days. I couldn’t wait that long, and I hope you don’t have to!
I’m sorry about that!! I hate it when stores don’t carry what they’re suppose to!
I hope you can find it!July 12, 2005 at 10:26 pm #54485Stephanie
ParticipantWow .. this was the first time i DIDNT have trouble finding a Danny score. I went to Sam Goody … but i will say they had it under charlies angels instead of Charlie and the Chocolate factory.

ParticipantI don’t like to ask clerks, either, when I’m looking for a score.
They try to tell me I’m buying the wrong one. “No, you don’t want that one, it only has music on it, no songs,” when there’s double releases. We live in the mountains and my mister works in the city so I’m waiting for him to pick it up for me on his way home. I’m starting to sweat and pace.

ParticipantNo Problem…you would think that since we live in Hollywood (where the f-ing movies are MADE) that it would be no problem getting the Elfman we crave, yet…alas. Glad I could steer you in the right direction. It also sucks that you actually got CAUGHT on the LA subway. What a pain in the ass…damn Metro.

ParticipantWow, you guys really are frothing at the mouths to get this score! You should be, though because it’s excellent, to say the least.

ParticipantI found mine at a Borders as well. I checked Best Buy first though and they didn’t have it.

ParticipantI was in Barnes and Noble today just because I was there (my sister’s getting the CD for me as a 5-month-belated birthday gift, not sure how long I’ll be waiting) and I don’t think they even had a film score section! Now I await the arrival of my CD and the release of the movie, and I am EXCITED!!!

ParticipantI was thinking the same thing Lucius! About the metro and how its so hard to get a score in Hollywood! But after all the hard ship i finally got the score! Thanx again
man! Anyway i havent heard the whole thing, because my friend asked me to come over, i have heard most of it and so far so Fing brilliant! It brought to mind Batman Returns, both Spidermans and Edward Scissorhands especially! This is his best in a long while in my opinion! I love it!July 13, 2005 at 4:29 am #54497Danny Burton
ParticipantWho the hell shops at real stores anymore?
Mine arrived today from Amazon.

ParticipantHehe… I got mine monday night at 11.30pm… at Tower Records in Torrance. Amazing score… It’s a huge mix of all Elfman’s career. Black Beauty meets Spiderman meets Edward Scissorhands meets Boingo. EXCELLENT !!!!!

ParticipantI misread your post believing it was “Where’s the Chocolate Store?”. Isn’t that fascinating?
July 13, 2005 at 6:42 pm #54502Dalboz
ParticipantSimilar thing for me.
Checked Best Buy, Borders (2 of ’em!), Wal*Mart, Circuit City, FYE (2 of ’em!), Hot Topic, and finally found it at Media Play.
It’s always such a process / adventure to track down scores day-of-release.July 13, 2005 at 6:58 pm #54503Edward Bloom
ParticipantApparently, Warner Bros doesn’t know how to sell film music; it’s the same problem here in Europe and it happened with the Batman Begins score as well. They sure don’t know what they’re doing…
July 13, 2005 at 7:20 pm #54504Spider-Fan
ParticipantI haven’t gotten mine yet, but I’m glad to hear it’s got a lot of “Spider-Man” to it–it’s my favorite of his scores.
July 14, 2005 at 2:37 am #54508mar2k
ParticipantFound my copy at Media Play too. They seem to be the only brick and mortar store in the Atlanta area with a decent Soundtrack section. They were the only ones to have the Spider-Man 2 score on the day of release too as I went to five stores looking for it before finding it there. Will definitely be my first stop from now on for film scores.
I haven’t had a chance to listen to it yet but the packaging is genius, so colorful and wacky, I can’t wait to listen to it while I work tomorrow……..

ParticipantNot sure where the chocolate store is! Something similar will be here on Friday! Anyway i also detected a bit of Beetlejuice and Sleepy Hollow! It is a perfect mix of a lot of his scores i believe! Its soooooooo good!

ParticipantMy journey to find the soundtrack: Wal-Mart did not have it. Target did not have it. Strawberries, a local music/movies store had one copy which I was lucky to snag. I’ve just uploaded the CD to my MP3 player and I look forward to listening to it.
UPDATE: I just listened to the whole soundtrack twice, and I love it! It’s a blend of everything he’s accumulated over his musical career, and then some. I love the mechanical titles, the tribal Oompa Loompa stuff, the heavily stylized songs, and the use of the chorus. How on earth did he do all those vocals? It sounds like an entire band of vocalists plus chorus singing when it’s all just him and him alone! I especially love 0:50 to 1:10 of “The Golden Ticket/Factory.” Great soundtrack, I’m glad I bought it, and I can’t wait to see the movie tomorrow.
July 15, 2005 at 8:10 am #54548Edward Bloom
ParticipantI still don’t have it. If it’s not there tomorrow, it will be at least for next wednesday (an that’s if I’m lucky). I guess that’s the price to pay to have seen the film twice already.
Seriously, Warner Bros doesn’t seem to care much about film music…
