Last night, I saw a stage adaptation of Charlie, simply called “Willy Wonka.” It of course had nothing to do with the Burton movie (as it was written quite a while ago), but instead contained all of the songs from the first movie as well as many more. Surprisingly, it was actually very impressive.
Anyway, the reason I’m posting this is merely because when the 5 children entered the gates of the factory, the actors all just ad-libbed stuff like “Wow” “Cool!” etc. And the guy playing Mike Teavee exclaimed simply “Willy Wonka!” in the tune of Elfman’s Welcome Song! Lots of fun.
(And, as we were walking out after the show was over, there were a lot of audience members talking about Burton’s movie and how great it was.)
