Corpse Bride
Danny Elfman
If one vintage Elfman score wasn’t enough for you this year, there’s this little gem—an intimate study in duality. Here the composer returns to his storybook style to collide the world of the living (stuffy Victorian reserve) and the dead (hang-loose Dixieland cabaret). The four gentle songs will garner the most attention, but it’s Elfman’s Beethoven-esque main theme, upon which the score spins endless variations, that’s the most moving tune in the piece.FYI: Elfman wrote a fifth song for Corpse Bride, entitled “Erased,” which, sadly, never made it to either the land of the living or dead.
