Pretty cool. I guess that’s about as close as Danny can get to Conti’s ROCKY sound! :)

Variety’s favorable review mentioned Elfman’s score:

“Seamless visual effects and heavy-duty sound design complete the illusion of fast-moving fighting machines, while Danny Elfman’s inspirational score leaves no heartstring unstrummed.”

Additional arrangements ? Sorry to sound like a dummy but what is that exactly ? B/c I’ve been seeing that credit on Elfman’s last two albums.(Alice and TN3D) . Is that additional orchestrations or what ?

The following is from an interview with Shawn Levy about the music in Reel Steal (mostly soundtrack info)…

“I called up Crystal Method, I’m like, ‘Come to my editing room,’ I showed them the fight scenes and they’re like, ‘Oh yeah we got this, we got this,’ and then they were like ‘Can we see more?’ and so I showed them some of the more underdog kind of rousing emotional scenes, and they were like ‘Why are we fucking getting emotional at a fucking robot movie?’…But anyway they wrote two different songs, one is the introduction to Noisy Boy who is our kind of Japanese Bot, that’s a song called ‘Bring the Noise’ that is great…and then, this was fascinating, they wrote a piece of music for Round 1 of Zeus vs. Atom, which is the climactic fight, and it worked pretty well, as a track it worked great. But we mix it on the movie, and I’m like ‘Shit, all of Crystal Method’s sounds are in exactly the same pitch as the robot sound effects,’ so the result was you couldn’t hear it. So then what happened is Crystal Method basically did a kind of collaboration with Danny Elfman, who wrote an overlay on top of the Crystal Method track, so what’s in the movie is this weird unexpected Danny Elfman/Crystal Method duet that works exceptionally well.”

Full interview can be read and also a video interview seen here:

It looks rather nice. Varese releases are often quite good.

Just got back from the movie. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. It was actually very enterrtaining and fun. Not a dull moment.

Elfman’s score was excellent and used sparingly. I was surprised how much of Elfman’s music made it in the film. It even carried the last match in the film. And added a lot of emotional weight to that final fight. His score to this is very similar to Taking Woodstock and especially The Kingdom. With the guitar riffs. Atom’s theme is very catchy. It added to a lot of the scenes when used. Especially during that final fight. Definitely can’t wait for this score release. Elfman delivered the goods.

Love the main theme – and it was nice to see all of the sound dialed down in the film TWICE to let the score take over completely. I was actually touched by this movie. It would make a great father/son pic, if only I had a son! Can’t wait to hear the final boxing cue by itself.
