Well, it would be rather interesting to hear Elfman on something experimental, Gerry-like.
I hope he will score this movie, I love the mood he gives to his Van Sant scores.

A bit the same kind of atmosphere as in Standard Operating Procedure, a score that I like a lot…I’m more and more curious about this one !

To be oscar eligible, a movie must have some caracteristics : one of them is to be released”For paid admission in a commercial motion picture theater in Los Angeles County”, and this for at least seven consecutive days. It’s not the case, for what I know, with The Unknown Known for the moment being…So Elfman’s score is not eligible, sadly.
Maybe next year, if it is finally released

I received it today, and agree with you all, it’s really a good one. Same “spirit” and mood as in “Promised Land”, and that can explain that I didn’t remember it, it’s not so obvious to be attentive to it in the movie I think.
    Very agreable listening.

It’s good to know that their will be comments from Elfman, I don’t remember him speaking a lot about this score.

In their message, they speak about “dolores Claiborne”, saying it is memorable…Well then, I hope they’ll finally release an expanded of this one smiling smiley
Speaking of this, for those who are interested, the Composer’s personal edition is available on youtube (at least it was some days ago). Good moment to give a listen to this…It is so impossible to find it another way…

La-La-Land announced the release of Black-beauty the 8th of October, in an expanded limited edition. 79 minutes of music, so 34 minutes more than the old release.

Message on La La Land’s facebook announcing there will be two Elfman releases in october. So, would it be Midnight Run and Good Will Hunting ? There were rumors about Black Beauty some times ago, also.

    We’ll see, but anyway…Two is great !

Even in the film business…I mean, there are unreleased ones such as “Restless”, but also works like “Nacho Libre”, “Notorious BIG”, “Chicago”,… or his TV works that would deserve to be put together on a compilation album, “Darkened theatre” style.
Hope it will be done someday

Interesting…It would be good to have a cd release of all non-movie works from Elfman, as a lot of them haven’t been released yet

    That’s good news !
S.O.P was quite an unusual score…Very cold in a way. Well that’s not exactly that, but I don’t know how to express this feeling correctly. It was excellent, for sure.

Very nice. Seems to fit the movie perfectly. I’m expecting more and more from this.
It’s the last score by Elfman for this year, I think ? There were a lot of rumors on different potential works, but none of them seems to get confirmed…

Oh. I only checked for this info on the physical album page. How stupid can I be…
Well this is reassuring :) waiting for the remaining of the samples then, should be here soon.

I like what I hear. It’s quite a bit Powell style, but one can still recognise Elfman own caracteristics. There are agreable theme that appears in those samples, too…Well all this is promising.
But if all the track are available on the amazon page, then the album is only 34 minutes long…This is quite short…It was also the case for “Promised land”, but there wasn’t so much music in the movie itself : but in a animated movie like this I think there is much more music. So I hope the album will be longer…

A nice little album. There is a continuity in his works for Van Sant, at least since Milk… Very agreable.

I just finished the listening, and I agree : it’s great. Not the most original score by Elfman, it’s quite what we expected from this project, but it’s really, really well done. The themes are powerful and sensitives, and as usual Elfman knows how to play with them with a lot of gift and musical intelligence.
A major score, with a great album presentation (as much as I love Hitchcock, I think the album is really to short, with cues of such a reduced lenght that it is sometimes hard to catch a musical or thematic continuity…) : a pleasant listening experience, and I think I will love it more and more at each new hearing.

Oh, yes indeed. Sorry, that was because only the digital download was available for pre-order on amazon, and some other places. I forgot about this Intrada thing.

But once again, no cd release is indicated, only digital…

Well…”Hitchcock” and “Frankenweenie” would have deserved a nomination. Same thing every year…But still, it surprises me to see how he is ignored by the Oscars. Too bad…

About this, I had a question : is the whole music of the show released on the cd (apart from the opening song by Elfman…) ?

in reply to: Lalaland’s 2013 Elfman release #67711

Yes, a kind of “Music for a darkened theatre 3″… And maybe even a number 4, with all this music that hadn’t any good cd release in all Elfman’s carreer.
But I don’t think there is a lot of hope for something like that…

Well Dolores Claiborne would be a good idea too. The cd version isn’t a satisfying one for the moment, I think, while Black Beauty has a rather good album. And there is a whole bunch of unrealised music in Dolores Claiborne…With the alternates and all that stuff, at least enough for two cds, maybe even three. Really this would be the best thing for me^^
But well…I’d still be happy with any other Elfman score.

“Restless” wasn’t realised, and it looks like “Promised land” won’t be, too. What’s the problem with Gus Van Sant’s films scores ?
