GuestI had a situation at Best Buy when I went to go buy The Spider-Man 2 Score CD on July 27. I went looking for it first. I figrued it might be in the front area where they usually put new releases of music CDs that came out on that day, but no luck. I fugured that was strange, but let it go then I went to the soundtrack section and all I saw there was the “Music from and Inspired By” CD not the score. “Hmmmm whats going on?” I thought to myself.
I then went to ask this girl that worked in the music section. I told her what I was looking for and that it was supposed to be released that day and of course she thought I was talking about the “Music from and Inspired By” CD . I told her that I was looking for the score CD composed by Danny Elfman. I was looking for the musical score and this halfwit of a girl had no clue what I was talking about.
I had to explain it to her 3 times what it was I was looking for. I had to actually define what a movie film score was. At this point I was very upset. 1. I could not comprehend the sheer stupidity of this girl. and 2. I was no closer to having my Spider-Man 2 score CD. Then she saw I was getting aggitated and sought the help of a fellow employee. The whole proccess all over again and this guy had no clue what I was talking about. At this point I was fed up. I told them to forget it and I stormed off. In retrospect I should have done that a lot sooner. Needless to say I eventualy got my score at a Barnes and Noble. Later I found out that Best Buy was not even carrying the Spider-Man 2 score CD. At least the ones down here (Miami, FL) Now thats just sad.

GuestRonald, I feel your pain man. The exact same thing happened to me and I live in Hollywood! I wound up calling every Best Buy in town, to no avail.
Me (on phone): “Do you have the SCORE to Spiderman 2 by DANNY ELFMAN?”
Moron: “Um, hold on let me check…”
(30 hours later)
Moron: “Um, yes have the Spiderman 2 soundtrack.”
Me: “You do…thank God, I’ll be right over.”
Moron: “Um, but there are only 2 tracks by…uh…that guy.”
Me: “Danny Elfman…okay you don’t have what I’m looking for. Thanks for nothing you mother fu—” (click)
Thank god the folks at Ameoba Music (if you are in Cali, you know what I’m talking about) are always there to help me out. Best Buy is good for cheap DVDs and everything else, but there score section SUCKS!!!
(stepping off soapbox now)

GuestI know, I know. It’ll be alright, there, there.
I’ve actually had music store clerks try to talk me out of score purchases. “Um, you know there aren’t actually any songs on that CD, right?”
It’s not fun.August 13, 2004 at 8:26 pm #51906Anonymous
GuestMusic store clerks are retarded. They think just because I’m 16, I should be listening to Britney Spears CD’s and buying the soundtrack to “A Cinderella Story”…F*CK THAT!
If I wanted that crap, I would ask for it. I remember one time I went to Best Buy, looking for the first “Matrix” score and the guy was like “You don’t want the one with Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie? That one is so cool.” I said, in an extremely condescending tone, “No I don’t want the one with Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie…do I look like a Satanist to you?” He tries to rectify the situation by saying “No you look like a smart young man.” I was like “Yea I am, now can you please show me to what I asked for?”
What an @ss.

GuestBest Buy always gets things a week after other stores do. I don’t know why, they just do. I went to Best Buy looking for the score on the 28th, and they didn’t have it. So I went to the music store in my local mall and found it.
It’s the same thing with video games. Best Buys always gets video games a week after everyone else does too.

GuestGuys … Patience.

GuestI went to Best Buy as well. It was not available at the store, but they had it on there website as being available that day. I ordered it online and had to wait for a few days. I kept playing thirty-second samples on Amazon.com for several days. (Isn’t that kinda sad? Look at what Best Buy did to me.) The kicker is that two days after it arrived I found it at the Best Buy store. Why don’t their computers tell them that the album will be available in a week rather than tell them nothing??
P.S. Did anyone notice that there was no “Special Thanks” included in the liner notes. Nice touch on Danny’s part.

GuestI used to work in a music store and had to talk people out of getting a score CD when they really meant the soundtrack. The store looses money if people by the wrong one and bring it back (the times that people brought back the matrix score was uncountable). Also, the majority of people WANT the soundtrack and not the score. People who listen to film scores are in a minority. It is really telling of our preference in music when a limited edition of 3000 copies of a score takes years (in special instances months) to sell out.
I don’t look at it as those “soundtrack” people being retarded (a word not to be used lightly) but more that we “score” fans are unique and dare I say, special.

Nat
P.S. I also had trouble in finding the Spider-man 2 Score in my little southern town, but did find it a week later in our smaller music shop that has no where the amount of music as our FYE in the mall.

GuestDang you guys . . . try a little bit of sympathy for the people working at music stores. Ever had a service job? They’re really awful, and people in those positions take a heck of a lot of crap from whiny, impatient customers who are upset with an employee for their lack of psychic ability. Yeah, some employees just are genuinely dumb but not most. You try getting paid minimum wage to deal with self-centered jerks at a store, restaurant, etc.

GuestNo no no…some people just don’t know how to read. If you go shopping for a CD, I don’t care who you are…you look through a few other CD’s, and you always…ALWAYS…look at the tracklist on the back. If its a “music from and inspired by” soundtrack, its gonna say the name of the song and the artist who made it. If you’re looking at the score, and you think its the soundtrack, you need Hooked On Phonics.

GuestWell geez, some people don’t listen to scores the way we do. So sue them for not knowing the difference between a score and a soundtrack.

GuestI’ll draw up the papers.

GuestHeheh. Seriously, though, I agree with Infynitie. You guys need to settle down, and have patience with people. You’re not better than everyone else just because you know what a score album is.

Guestthank you Mr. Dantz – that was needed

GuestMy frustration was not with Best Buy but with music stores in the UK in general. I finally ordered it online and will be getting it by the end of the month.
I’m normally patient with people with people at stores cause I’ve had a few service jobs myself, most of the time it isn’t there fault. Computer systems at ALL stores are sh*te.
But I must admit that when you take on a job like that they should at least tell you the difference and the same with all the other types of music.

GuestI still can’t believe I got my copy of the Spider-Man 2 score on the first try…AT WAL-MART! That’s really the last place I would’ve expected to actually find it at.

GuestUm, on behalf of Best Buy, I would like to apologize to you all. Yes, I work there. But if you were to have come to my store and found me, I would have known exactly what you were talking about and then you would love Best Buy. Every store has crappy customer service reps, and you guys just seemed to have found only those. Anyway, I found mine yesterday, buried deep within the rest of the “From and Inspired by” CDs. Again, I’m sorry. We try our best.
August 15, 2004 at 5:22 am #51932Anonymous
GuestMy problem was that they insisted that what I wanted was the “from and inspired by” CD. Even after I explained it to them in detail what I actually wanted. I work in the retail service buisness my self at Hollywood Video so I know how crappy it really is, but Im sorry these to were idiots. It’s like they did not hear what I was saying. I retrospect perhaps I should have been a little nicer and patient with them, but I had had a really bad day at work and the only thing that was keeping me going was that I was gonna get the Spider-Man 2 score.

You the man.

GuestI’ll tell you what’s wrong with us people. We get stupid people day in and day out that expect us to know everything in the world and what they’re thinking, and sometimes if it just so happens we may not have something or something is sold out, it’s the employees fault.
I can’t speak for all people employed at Best Buy, but I do my job and I try my best, but people are so inconsiderate and naive sometimes that it really gets annoying and I wish the smarter folks in the world could understand that. Yeah, so some chick doesn’t know what a score soundtrack is. Big surprise! She’s only one of the majority of the people on the Earth that are the same way. Don’t go cursing Best Buy forever just because of somebody who only knew what she knew but went out of her way anyway to help you.
You think it’s tough shopping at Best Buy because of the employees? It’s tougher working there because of customers like you.

GuestI can just see it now. Some guy walks in asking for a rap album: “Hey, you got da P-Diddy edition where da one guy says ‘Yo’ and da other guy says ‘pop’? Not da edition where da one guy says ‘pop’ and the other guy says ‘diddy’ … Dat’s the 3rd edition … Wad I’m lookin’ for is de 4th special edition wid da special lyrics … knowwhatI’msayin’?”

Guestyou have no idea.
“yeah, you guys got that video game where that dude runs around?”
“What’s that one song that starts with a piano?”
“where’s your electronics department?”
to name a few.
