It’s funny that I see Ligeti and Strauss on there. You’d think this is a Kubrick movie with those wild credits. I also like it that almost every kid gets a seperate Elfman song. This is shaping up into at least what I’d call quite the quasi-musical. I just hope Elfman’s vocals aren’t as digitally disguised in all of them as they were in the “Oompa Loompa Welcome Song” from the trailer.

One thing I noticed off the bat: I see Gloop gets a song performed by The Alleyns School Brass Ensemble. Here’s an early-90’s-Elfman sensability. Since Gloop is European I see plenty of Alberti Bass, ala Beetlejuice and “Christmas Montage” in Nightmare Before Christmas (remember the scene with the pudgy kid?). That’s the only thing I think I can predict at this point.

Well you’d have to assume that since the Ooompa Loompa song was sung by the Oompa Loompas and that all the other songs will also be sung by them that the voices will be distorted as much! I didnt know that Roald Dahl had lyrics though! It will be interesting to see what kind of music Danny puts to them! There is one trailor playing on TV now and it sounds as though there is a jazzy number in there! Reminded me of Ogie Boogies music! Im so excited! The macarena worries me though!

For those interested in Roald Dahl’s ‘lyrics’, visit this address: http://www.roalddahlfans.com/books/char.php

You will see a section labeled “Poems contained”. Or scroll down to “Fun Stuff” and select “Official Oompa-Loompa Songbook”. Then try to wrap your brain around what Elfman will do with these words! I can’t wait.

Sounds promising. What worries me there is the presence of the godawful Macarena song, which, even if it’s used for parody purposes, is simply not funny and incredibly overused by now. It’s “exotic”, but we all agree it’s not Day-O in Beetlejuice! It’s a bit like using, once more, Who Let the Dogs Out in a movie. Ugh.

I would have never thought that the vocals for Wonka’s theme song would be done by Danny Elfman. I mean, that seems high of a pitch for a guy to reach, doesn’t it????
