ParticipantThe official website for “The Kingdom” has been updated, complete with Elfman music everywhere. It’s very heavy with electronics and presents a side of Elfman we haven’t heard much of in the last few years. In fact, if you told me Harry Gregson-Williams or John Powell wrote this music, I wouldn’t hesitate to believe you.

Oh, all Elfman music sounds the same, “IMHO.”
There are a few hints of Dead Presidents in there, which makes me very happy.

ParticipantElfman can do that shit in his sleep. I’m not real fond of what I’m hearing there. Sounds lazy. Maybe I’ll be surprised by the final result.

THE KINGDOM
Original Motion Picture SoundtrackMusic Composed by Danny Elfman
Jamie Foxx
Chris Cooper
Jennifer GarnerAcademy Award winner Jamie Foxx leads an all-star ensemble in a timely thriller that tracks a powder-keg criminal investigation shared by two cultures chasing a deadly enemy ready to strike again in The Kingdom.
When a terrorist bomb detonates inside a Western housing compound in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, an international incident is ignited. While diplomats slowly debate equations of territorialism, FBI Special Agent Ronald Fleury (Foxx) quickly assembles an elite team (Oscar winner Chris Cooper and Golden Globe winners Jennifer Garner and Jason Bateman) and negotiates a secret five-day trip into Saudi Arabia to locate the madman behind the bombing. Upon landing in the desert kingdom, however, Fleury and his team discover Saudi authorities suspicious and unwelcoming of American interlopers into what they consider a local matter. Hamstrung by protocol — and with the clock ticking on their five days — the FBI agents find their expertise worthless without the trust of their Saudi counterparts, who want to locate the terrorist in their homeland on their own terms.
Fleury’s crew finds a like-minded partner in Saudi Police Captain Al-Ghazi (Ashraf Barhoum), who helps them navigate royal politics and unlock the secrets of the crime scene and the workings of an extremist cell bent on further destruction. With these unlikely allies sharing a propulsive commitment to crack the case, the team is united by one mission that won’t stop until justice is found in The Kingdom.
Danny Elfman contributes one of his most exciting scores ever for this gritty political thriller. It’s thrilling and propulsive, and one of the most anticipated scores of the Fall.
Universal Pictures opens The Kingdom nationwide on September 28.

ParticipantI would wait until you heard the score in the context of the film rather than making a snap judgment from a few seconds of score.

KeymasterI like what I hear. It’s a diversion from the CHARLIE, CORPSE, CHARLOTTE’S and ROBINSONS course.

ParticipantI think it’s about time Danny get’s to a “real” movie.

ParticipantWow, I love those clips!! Some it – especially the sampled percussion bits – reminds me a bit of PLANET OF THE APES, which is one of my favourite Elfman scores. I’ve always wanted him to do more of that stuff. And some of those dissonant chords that segue in and out remind me a bit of Don Davis’ MATRIX scores. Looking forward to picking this up!

ParticipantThat was pretty much what I related it to… part- “Planet of the Apes,” part-“Matrix,” and I think part-“Hulk.” It’s really not my favorite side of him, but generally I always love an Elfman score after multiple listenings, so it probably just needs time to showcase more of itself and grow on me. Hell, the music on the intro page is already stuck in my head!

Participant“S.O.P.” and the ballet are what I’m looking forward to MOST, right now. But the Kingdom saples sounds very interesting – just like somebody mentioned – a bit of a cross between Hulk and the Planet of the Apes, so far. I wonder what else we’ll get in it.
