GuestAs this is a Danny Elfman website and Tim Burton is one of his greatest collaborators, I thought I would post this DISTURBING piece of news…
From http://www.bombasticbritney.com/
Britney Spears will film the video for “Toxic”, the 2nd single off of her new album ‘In the Zone’, next week in Paris. The video will be a high budget extravaganza directed by famed film director Tim Burton. This will mark his first music video. Burton has previous directed the remake of ‘Planet of the Apes’ starring Mark Wahlberg and ‘Edward Scissorhands’ starring Johnny Depp. The video is slated for early February.
In an interview with a Korean magazine, Britney talked about her new video to be shot in the near future…
“The video will be totally different from any video I’ve done. It has this freak show/circus vibe that I think fits with the song. Tim (Burton) is an amazing director and came up with an awesome treatment. I hope this one shocks ya’ll”

GuestI totally agree with everyone on this, Tim Burton should never direct a musci video for Britney Spears…but imagine yourself in his shoes. Putting behind you everything you know about her, you’re being offered to direct a video for one of the hottest people on earth, and you have a big budget and receive a large amount of money for doing it. Would you seriously turn it down for any reason?

GuestWell…. as much as i hate to say it…
it’ll probably be “her” best video (or her least bad). Just put it on mute and listen to scissorhands or something.December 14, 2003 at 6:08 am #47128Anonymous

GuestIf you ask me, considering his failures, and his changes in his life (ie he’s now got a kid, another girlfriend) I’d say Burton’s changed somewhat. Maybe he just finally realizes and accepts that he has to please both sides of the coin (personal artistic vision and consumerism) if he wants to make it in this world as a director. At least that was what he was ranting about in the last Entertainment Weekly article about Big Fish…he even accepts the fact (or was being cynical) about the Mcdonald’s having a tie in with Charlie and the Cocoa Factory. No matter what – “selling out” is something you have to do if you wanna make it big in Hollywood. And the guy’s been out of the spotlight for a long time, too…Maybe he just needs the money?

Guestafter i thought about it , maybe its a good thing. Its kinda like hes seeing what else is out there you know? i still dont think its cool but hey it could be good. But guys i wouldnt say he’s selling out , music videos have to be made and people have to make money. Thats just how life works.

GuestI don’t think Burton’s exactly hurting for money, though. I remember reading when he was working on Superman that his contract was such that he’d get paid several million dollars whether the movie got made or not, and it didn’t, so…

GuestI think this is awesome news. I don’t like BS too much, but more stuff from Burton is always something to look forward to. I’m happy. I don’t care.

Guestyea lonesome , but everyone wants to make money wheather they are pressed for it or not. Im happy that he’s going to do the video.

GuestWell, I’m sure it’ll be visually exciting, but when you get right down to it, videos are a promotional tool to help a record’s sales. That fact that some people (Spike Jonze, Chris Cunningham, hopefully Burton) have managed to make art out of them is kind of moot in my opinion, because if the song sucks, then the video is essentially worthless.
Oh, Tim. Tim, tim, tim.

GuestHere’s just something I’m throwing out…
If the video has an introduction will Elfman score it?
I’ve seen many videos that have intros that are scored before the song actually starts. I remember Michael Jackson doing this a lot (ala Thriller and some other videos that I think Alan Silvestri scored). Just a thought.

GuestMaybe he’s trying to look for a challenge…or maybe he is trying to prove to the world that his mind does not solely consist of macabre ideals. Although I am an avid fan of everything Tim Burton, he has aright to test his limits…even if it means mixing goth with mindless pop singing…

GuestTim’s not just directing Britney the person, he’s directing the Britney Empire! Let’s face it folks, she’s a walking media event. If Tim truly is slated to direct her next video, you could say that he’s got a very small bit of control over an empire, no?

GuestWhy am I reminded of the “good/bad” speech in Ghostbusters?
Will this be like the crossing of the streams and all life as we know it ending instantaneously and every molecule in our bodies exploding at the speed of light?
