Oddly enough, WB’s Japanese Batman Begins site has a very long video of the film’s premiere over there and they placed the ENTIRE score over the video in crystal-clear, pure form. So far I’m 20 minutes into it and it has yet to thrill me. I imagine that it will sound very good with the movie, but it’s really nothing special on its own. It’ pretty clear which parts are Howard’s and which are Zimmer’s. There are the very light, orchestral sections and the more percussive, electronic sections (which will soon be used in many future trailers). Basically, it has nowhere near the excitement that Danny brought to the score 16 years ago but it’s not bad. I’ll update this post if it gets any better within the next 20 or so minutes remaining in the video time. Link is below:

so they had 2 VERY talented composers working on this great movie and this is the best they could do?
i like it and it sounds okay but i was expecting more from zimmer and newton. there was no memorable cue in all of that, just bland generic music that has been heard beforeslightly disapointed i guess
June 3, 2005 at 3:04 am #54140Danny_TrejoParticipantAre you sure this is the music from th emovie itself?
ANd not some blend of previous music from another ZImmer or Howard score?
June 3, 2005 at 4:09 am #54142Spider-FanParticipantNope, I’m pretty sure it’s from Batman Begins. It was a headline on SuerheroHype.com just about the score being available. Having sat through 40 minutes of music and a bunch of Japanese (which I don’t speak) there was only a minute where I was mildly entertained by the music. It’s when they’re about to air the movie itself and there’s a powerful Zimmer cue that wasn’t bad, but certainly not on par with what was expected.

Sorry, but superhero movies that try to be too serious NEVER do it for me.

Well, I have good feelings about this film. I imagine the score will be a massive disappointment compared to what Elfman and Walker did with Batman. However, the film should be great — Newsweek loved it.

It does for me about the same as Thomas Newman’s “Lemony Snicket” score–probably good with the movie, but obring on its own. I don’t know if I’m happy or upset about this because I expected something great out of the collaborative work yet I didn’t want it to exceed Danny’s original masterpiece. The movie better be good.
June 6, 2005 at 3:15 am #54161Danny_TrejoParticipantObviously i think many people (including me) were waiting something outreagous from Zimmer and Howard, but i’ve always touhgt that the composer must have something of the character or the movie within himself….having say that.
That’s why i think Elfman and Goldenthal’s scores for Batman were politically correct…
But hey! that’s just myu humble opinion….
June 8, 2005 at 1:43 pm #54176ooshmasterParticipantI thought the Lemony Snicket score was pretty cool.
