I became a fan with Nightmare back in 1993. I got the book “The Film, The Art, The Vision” when it came out and that’s how I found out about some of Elfman’s other films. It mentioned a tiny blurb about Boingo, but just that he “got his start” in the band. In 1996 I met a teacher at my high school who was a Boingo fan and she lent me a couple of tapes, and I’ve been hooked ever since. So by the time I got properly introduced to Boingo they had already done the Farewell less than a year earlier. :( I’m still kinda bitter about that. So I’ve been a Elfman score fan since 11 (closer to 12), Boingo fan since 14.

38 years old. The 8-18-83 concert at the Universal was my first concert and I was hooked. I enjoyed about 40 more shows over the next 12 years, until the last on 10-31-95.

Film music fan since his first, Pee Wee’s Big Adventure.

Interesting that I saw Danny Elfman about 3 years ago at the Wiltern Theater in LA at the Buena Vista Social Club concert. He happened to be a row away, so I saw him during the show. I couldn’t help but wonder if he missed singing and performing as he watched the singers and musicians.

Let’s hope for a 10 year post “Farewell” Reunion concert in October 2005!

Well, I’m only barely 17. I was 16 a couple of days ago. I’ve been a fan since I was a baby. My parents played Boingo constantly. But, it was Nightmare that made me an instant fan. I was about 7, I think.

Boy, that sounded stupid. I meant, it was the Nightmare Before Christmas that made me recognize the guy behind all the music!

I’m 30 and have been a fan officially since 1988 (Beetlejuice was my first Elfman score purchase). Growing up in the 1980s, Oingo Boingo was always in my life with their film songs, and I loved Pee Wee’s Big Adventure, but it wasn’t until Beetlejuice that I really took notice of Elfman’s music as something to listen to on CD (well, tape first…). I’ve been listening and collecting all Elfman music religiously since.

I luckily got to go to the last Oingo Boingo concert in Chicago back in 1995 at the Metro. Stood right in front of the stage under Danny–he reached down and slapped my hand (in a “high-five” non-abusive kind of way ;) ) during a song!

After the show, my friends and I talked to Elfman outside the theatre when we saw him sitting on the front step! I couldn’t believe he’d just be out hanging out in front of the venue. He was, of course, a really nice guy. Incredible concert, incredible musician.

I’m 25 and a fan since ’93 or ’94. A friend got me into his scores first (Beetlejuice was my favorite at the time). But I didn’t listen to Boingo until I saw Nightmare Before Christmas’s credits that Danny sang as well as writing the music AND the score. Gotta love the guy’s versatile voice. He should have sung the vocal parts on Hulk.

    27. I remember taking Khachaturian’s “Saber Dance” to music sharing day in Band class when I was 10 or 11. I thought it was “The Breakfast Machine”, and other kids asked me if it was the music from Pee-Wee. A few years later, I would go through my burgeoning cassette collection (all of 12 tapes) and notice that the same guy who did the music for Batman did it for Beetlejuice. The moment was life altering.

34 years old and a fan since 1981. The first time I saw them play was in 1982, when they did a high school tour and came to my older brothers school(South High School located in Torrance, California) and played in the Gymnasium. I was still in Jr. High, and probably the youngest kid in the crowd. I even got a chance to meet all the guys in the band after the show and they were all very nice to me. Danny was especially nict to me and wanted to give me a copy of Nothing To Fear, which had just been released, but he had run out of copies. I got all there autographs, and took a picture with Danny, but sadly, have since lost it. I’ve been a die-hard fan eversince and was lucky enough to see them close to 20 more times over the next 14 years!

Hey Gil, I was also at that Universal Amphitheater show on 8-18-83. I remember the Red Hot Chili Peppers opened up for the band and were booed by the crowd. They hadn’t even released their first record yet. I thought they were very unique for the time and became a fan of theirs too. In fact, Flea played some bass on Danny’s Solo record. Mr.E

I’m 15, and I first started to like Danny Elfman’s work about a few years ago, but it has reached its peak this year upon watching The Nightmare Before Christmas again and noticing how much Elfman had done in that wonderful movie. It’s made me cry more than once, mainly because of the music. Afterward, I suddenly realized how much music of Elfman’s I was listening to all along (Chicago, Men In Black, MIB ll) and so my life and world-view changed that fateful day, and I have been an Elfman fan ever since. *grins with joy*

Actually, before I realized how much I loved Elfman’s work, I had borrowed my older sister’s copy of Music for a Darkened Theatre 1 (she never really listened to it), and I hadn’t given it back yet. Even now, I haven’t given it back, and it seems that she doesn’t mind. All the better for me, then! *chuckles*

    Cheers,
    ~Leccathu
