Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantSo, another moody score that lacks melody?
June 24, 2010 at 6:45 am #65539TenderLumpling
ParticipantHa, ha. This is the only movie missing from your Potential Work For Elfman thread.
Apparently Paul Higgis is on Elfman’s “directors I want to work with list.” Makes sense. I’d have him on my list too.
Now, I, myself, know little about this movie, but given Elfman’s recent track record (e.g., Alice, Wolfman, Terminator) this score will no doubt be unmelodic and dull.

ParticipantGreat news! I love Haggis, and if he can get more moody, ambient textures a la Isham’s glorious CRASH (or Elfman’s own THE KINGDOM) out of the composer, then I’m definitely game! I’m far more excited by this than any new superhero-type, bombastic score.

ParticipantI’m excited too, especially since that Green Hornet trailer came out and turned out to be a disappointment (Michel where are you ?? I hope the trailer is misleading us big time !).
Great to hear that Elfman is back in the drama genre. And we have Restless coming on too.And anyone who hears “unmelodic boring music” in Milk is just deaf.

ParticipantThe listing on imdb states Alberto Iglesias. Was Elfman a last-minute replacement?

KeymasterThanks for the trailer link. I think perhaps no one really knew that this was a big old action thriller! I wonder what’s with all these “man’s revenge against the system” movies (TAKEN, LAW ABIDING CITIZEN) coming out and what they are reflecting in current culture?

ParticipantHuh… it’s due to hit US theaters by the end of November. I guess this helps enforce the “scheduling conflicts” story that was attached to his GREEN HORNET departure. Movie looks good, but I’d rather see him on HORNET between the two.

InactiveElfman composed music with Alberto Iglesias???

ParticipantElfman replaced him. Elfman is the only one credited at the end of the trailer.

ParticipantAccording to Amazon, Lion’s Gate Records will put out a NEXT THREE DAYS soundtrack on November 16th, but it’s not yet clear if it will be songs or score. The listing says “various artists,” but it could just be that they don’t know either!
October 11, 2010 at 12:04 am #66126ddddeeee
ParticipantAmazon.co.uk has the same date listed and only Danny as artist.

ParticipantWow, that’s Elfman alright. Looking forward to this soundtrack.
October 18, 2010 at 9:14 pm #62405Thor
ParticipantThat’s a trailer, right? If so, are you sure that’s Elfman’s music?
The “Bourne riff” was definitely all over it in any case.

ParticipantDHI’s score is out the same day and has samples up, I realise it’s way higher profile but is it too early for NTD samples?

ParticipantThere are a handful of loops from Danny’s score on the official website:

ParticipantThe score is pretty much what I expected.

ParticipantLiking it. The other poster would have made a much better cover though,

Participant“Composed and conducted by,” eh? Interesting!

November 3, 2010 at 10:43 pm #66141ddddeeee
ParticipantI doubt they’d make a mistake like that on the album cover.
November 4, 2010 at 2:47 am #66142elfboy91
ParticipantFrom what I’m hearing, this seems a little different. I really like the groove in the “TOUCH” and “THE TRUTH” samples.
Exciting. I hope it is different from what Elfman has done semi-recently. Not that it would be bad if it wasn’t, just that I would like something new.
