lol, it’s always good to put yourself down, makes you strive to be more (no matter how good you are).

And as for the luck part, that is a bunch of crap. Start calling up every production house you can find (or sending e-mails), and you will find SOMEONE who needs a composer (unless you live in LA, in that case call ones that are out of state). Being a composer is more like being a door to door salesman (at first), and you are the product. Keep that in mind. You will not get paid a whole hell of alot at first but if you keep on pumping out good music that you will get higher pay fairly quickly (and if they don’t want to give you more money, drop the client).

Don’t send out demo CDs though, no one listens to them. It’s all about the relationship, and if you seem like a good guy over the phone, or through e-mail, they will request a demo CD (or website). Oh, and don’t work for free, but I think I have seen you over at NSS so you probably already read that thread.

In any case, get to it. No time is better than now. If at any point you doubt yourself, just pop in the latest B class horror movie, listen to the score, and that should cheer you up :D. Good work, and good luck,

Well, I don’t really count on Raimi’s composers choices. He has gone through quite a few (and why he stopped working with LoDuca is beyond me in the first place).

Wait, since when was Elfman not doing Spider-man 3?

Well, and I will get stoned for this:

    Mr. Elfman,
If you have decided to bail on this third film, I say more power to you. I would do exactly the same thing if something I had worked so hard on (knowing how it is with action films) got chopped up and rehashed. You can do better, and considering you are one of the most highly regarded composers in the field today, you don’t deserve that kind of treatment. I look forward to whatever you choose to do next.

Side Note: You people do realize that he never reads this board right? And hey, someone had to say it.

Now that is just plain cruel!

Hehe, I am actually interested in what Newton Howard and Zimmer can come up with.

Well, there is alot of things going on. You have a guitar picking some harmonics, you have a vibraphone going, and a heavily processed piano, but I think what you are talking about are just some samples of those things that some people have outside their door…like wind chimes but they are bells…can’t remember what they are called…

Screw a sceencap, I want to see the FULL scene!!! With all the dialouge and stuff (yes, that was a speaking role that Elfman had). That would be awesome.

Knight (Now how the hell did Raimi get her to DO that?!?)

How many times are people going to keep asking this? Search the board bro, this question has been answered over and over and over and over….

    Hardy-har-har, that wasn’t funny.

ANYHOW, learning an instrument is important, but to be a composer you have to know MANY instruments and what they can do, and if you can’t afford a keyboard or your family will not let you have one or something, just fiddle with free sequencers (I know there are free ones out there). But if at all possible, do get an instrument with a high range ala keyboard, piano, guitar, harp, ect. ect.

    Good luck

Well, if you really want to get into this, my best advice is to start learning now. Get as many books on composing, orchestration, arrangement, theory and such and read them to death. You have a computer so get a free sequencer (do a google search) and start jotting down stuff. Try to order the scores you want online and above all: LISTEN to as much film music as possible and WATCH as many films as you can. When you are old enough to start college, hopefully you will have quite a bit of knowledge and be able to write some fairly good music. Send it to some highly regarded schools for music (don’t come to america though, trust me on this, there are TOO MANY composers here) and perhaps you will be able to get a scholership and leave where you are. Best of luck,

Knight (Most people I know here in America don’t know about film scores, and alot of young people here like Rap so don’t feel too bad)
