ParticipantI have that first generation thing, in which only the chopped-up segments from the suite sound decent. Otherwise, it’s SFX and all. I’ll gladly use it as a coaster if and when a legit version comes out.

That said, I’d buy a commercial album in a heartbeat if it were released, even complete and chronological (which isn’t so bad when it’s that short).
Thor
ParticipantWell, that’s nice. I have the boot which combines the MFADT suite with various rips of varying quality. There are a couple of nice cues that weren’t in the suite, but for the most part, it’s pretty representative. Either way, it’s a short score, so if this is planned, I hope they include something….extra.

ParticipantThanks, Ryan. I’m sure we would have heard something if it was an upcoming reissue.
Thor
ParticipantI’m not sure about CHARLOTTE’S WEB, but she obviously did work on the DEEP SEA 3D film, and according to the latest Daniel Schweiger interview – also WANTED, which I didn’t know. So they apparently have some sort of connection.
Thor
ParticipantThanks. Sounds like typical dark and foreboding stuff.
Interestingly, this is not the first time Lurie and Elfman have “collaborated” on a movie. In 2004, Lurie scored the high school chick flick THE SLEEPOVER, which features a live performance of OIngo Boingo’s “We Close Our Eyes” by the band Allister. Just a piece of trivia.
Thor
ParticipantI’m guessing it’s more a Bridget Fonda connection (JACKIE BROWN) than an Elfman connection.
Thor
ParticipantEhm….am I the only one who doesn’t see any samples at that Amazon page?
Thor
ParticipantI have no idea what “Bandslam” is, but nice to see such real-life inspiration.
I wonder if “Aqualung” is the Jethro Tull album?

But cool to know that you had a “link”, sort of, to the band once upon a time.

ParticipantI’ve now found out what NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED is all about. It’s a student film, alright, about a guy driving around in a coroner van. The only Elfman in it is the Boingo song “Dead Man’s Party” played over a montage. The film is on youtube and the montage can be viewed from 3:15 here:

Thanks for the info on the CONDO/Seranada. I didn’t know there was a connection there.
As an Elfman completist, I’d like to have total control over his output. That’s why it’s nice to know these things.
Thor
ParticipantAlright, I’ve been doing some further digging on the net myself, and this is what I’ve come to:
MAZER WORLD and NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED are two fantasy/horror shorts by film students/budding film directors and it is likely that they’ve “mixed” their own Elfman soundtracks to their movies, using existing scores of his.
CINEMAKER is a DVD box with tips to the aspiring filmmaker from various people in the biz. Elfman is listed alongside composers Richard Band, Brian Benison and Wayne Scott Joness (I’ve never heard of the last two) as providing “stock music”. Again, I refuse to believe that they’ve provided ORIGINAL stock music for this, and that it is instead bits and pieces of their existing work.
As Ryan points out, the track “Fire” in THE BENCHWARMERS is indeed from SPIDERMAN, and not an original composition.
As for CONDO PAINTING, I am actually now quite convinced that this is an original piece that none of us have heard of. It’s a documentary on the psychelic painter George Condo, and several online Elfman bios list this as a “brief excursion” into indie land for Danny. He’s apparently written 5 “songs” for this film. None of them appear on the film’s released soundtrack, however.
PROUD IZA is, as I said, another Elfman assignment that we’ve never talked about. I’m very curious about this, since he’s also the narrator.
Alright, that’s what I found myself. Any more info heartily appreciated, fellow Elfmaniacs!

ParticipantI would like to see him do commentaries on ALL his scored movies. Perhaps even for some of the films with scores that he adores, like old Herrmann stuff.
It is worth noting that the PLANET OF THE APES commentary for the most part is made up of remnants of the interview. It is not a “commenting while sitting down and watching it ” commentary like the excellent EDWARD SCISSORHANDS commentary. Same with Burton’s. Kinda disappointing, if you ask me. It’s more interesting when they comment on exact things on-screen while it happens.
Thor
ParticipantWhy, you….
Thor
ParticipantAwesome, thanks for the heads-up!
Elfman does lo fi guitar rock! Ya gotta love it. Can’t wait.
Thor
ParticipantActually, it was the same problem on Explorer and Firefox, but I got the imdb video to work. Looks very interesting, altohough a little heavy on rather shoddy-looking CGI.
Thor
ParticipantIt just says “unsupported format”. Jesus, this trailer is difficult to get “hold” of!
Thor
ParticipantDamnit, too late! It has been deleted.
Thor
ParticipantSomething wrong with that page. Can’t get the video up. Neither in Opera nor Explorer.
Thor
ParticipantI agree. “March of the Dead” is not really anything we haven’t heard from him before…and better. The highlights are to be found in LoDuca’s score, such as “Ride on the Peripets” or whatever the heck the track was called, used in countless trailers since.
Thor
ParticipantOf course it will be out on CD. I’ll eat my shorts if it isn’t.
