Those samples are alright. I wonder how much music Danny Elfman wrote….
Nick ParkerParticipantI confess, I am very curious of this Proud Iza as well. Danny Elfman was very prolific during 2008, it would seem….
August 2, 2009 at 11:53 am in reply to: What Non-Burton Movie Would You Like Elfman to do a DVD Commentary For? #64463Nick ParkerParticipantI would love to hear his commentary for some of the more imaginative films he scored, like Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Looking through my meager CD collection, I would also love to hear his commentary on Mission: Impossible ( a very “milestone” score for him, I think) and his more subdued efforts such as Dolores Claiborne or Milk.
Nick ParkerParticipantNot to my knowledge. Not everything these specialty labels release are limited.
Nick ParkerParticipantAt the Ubeda Film Music Conference, Michael Giacchino was asked about UP being a digital-only release, and this is what Michael had to say (albeit paraphrased): “Disney has gone that road and I had the dubious honor of being the first one.”
You better be really descriptive, Ryan!
Nick ParkerParticipantI finally got around to watching it. I have to be honest, I did not think Johnny Depp would be a good Mad Hatter, but the trailer made me think otherwise.
Nick ParkerParticipantSo I am not missing too much. Oh, wait this website has audio samples…
Eh, I really am not missing much. This is actually one of the more underwhelming Danny Elfman pieces that I have heard.
Nick ParkerParticipantI am curious, who scored how much?
Nick ParkerParticipantOh no…this cannot be happening…I want Danny Elfman nowhere near this!
Nick ParkerParticipantHuh, I forgot about this score! Cool! And I guess it had more music than we had originally imagined….
Nick ParkerParticipantHm, another somewhat recent Danny Elfman score curiously missing from my collection. Danny Elfman only had two weeks or so to write the replacement score, am I correct?
Nick ParkerParticipantI want to say that Richard Elfman confirmed it on his website…I cannot remember at the moment, let me check…yep, I was right, the link is right here. There is also some nice stuff about Oingo Boingo and other Danny Elfman-related things.

July 2, 2009 at 8:56 pm in reply to: Red Dragon, Hannibal, film score review and comparisons… #64380Nick ParkerParticipantI do not own it to agree or disagree with you, but that review certainly makes me want to own it…I think I should get alongside Sommersby…..
Nick ParkerParticipantIt would be my pleasure.
Nick ParkerParticipantWhatever, if you think that is ridiculous, then so be it. For some reason, I just do not deprive pleasure when I listen to music on a computer.
Nick ParkerParticipantThere better be! I would love to listen to Up, but the fact that it is only available via download turned me away.
Nick ParkerParticipant…Um, no, he did not. Usually (if not always), Danny Elfman does not adapt his film music into concert pieces the way Bernard Herrmann did and John Williams does (which really is a shame), assuming that is what you mean by “[making] a longer version”. I agree, though, that last half-minute is very poignant and very moving. Welcome!
Nick ParkerParticipantDanny Burton Wrote:
> I’ll die happy the day I can attend an Elfman
> concert where I can hear Batman, Pee Wee and NBC
> performed by a live orchestra. Not before a performance of Serenada Schizophrana and Rabbit and Rogue!
Nick ParkerParticipantBecause I love a computer telling me my personality, I took that Meyers-Briggs test and I am apparently an INFJ.
Nick ParkerParticipantI was tempted to watch it because of Danny Elfman’s supposed involvement with the film (remember, I was not around to know all of this information), but after realizing how much I hated Napolean Dynamite, I decided not to.
Nick ParkerParticipantI would say something more along the lines of John Barry.
Nick ParkerParticipantHm, sounds like a good story for a HBO film, or maybe even a Lifetime Original film. I can vividly imagine a scene at the end of the film where Tim Burton and Danny Elfman run toward each other in an autumn park, in slow motion of course. Ridiculously “sappy” strings accompany the two men as they meet in a brotherly embrace, with Tim Burton sobbing, “Oh Danny, I am sorry I left you!”
“It is alright, Tim, we are together now, that is all that matters.” Roll end credits.
Hey, there was a reason this story was never told.
Nick ParkerParticipantI think Giacchino also did a good job of channeling the “big John Williams vibe” for his Medal of Honor scores.
Nick ParkerParticipantTim Burton seemed to have a good relationship with him during Ed Wood, so I would not imagine why Tim Burton would not want to use Shore. I look forward to reading the whole story….
Nick ParkerParticipantWhat, another delay!? I wanted to get the CD before the school year was out!
