ParticipantSo, it’s out there and while there seems to be a lot to like in it (I will need a few more listens), it’s missing the cue from the “Fly little one” clip that has been online for a few weeks. “Dumbo Soars” is close but the orchestration is rather different. So I’m already waiting for a complete release… :/

ParticipantQuite curious to hear the score. Early reviews (embargo lifted in France it seems) are almost always mentioning Elfman’s music, either to say it’s a great effort or a total failure. There’s no middle ground.

ParticipantYup, I hope it’s for the Paris week-end…

ParticipantI mean, seeing the current state of film music in Hollywood, Elfman just doesn’t belong anymore. I also wasn’t sure about his career shift but indeed, I’ll be happy with smaller film projects and concert work for the last part of his musical journey.

ParticipantGot my pass as well. I really wasn’t into Alice’s live concert so I got the cheapest seats possible for that one. I’m not even sure I’ll attend anyway (kind of ruins the day’s schedule, in the middle of the afternoon).
So it seems that the Saturday evening will include a new concert piece and Elfman will be there for a Q/A session.

ParticipantThat Elfman interview…so cringy.
One day I’ll witness Tim Burton finishing a sentence.March 14, 2019 at 9:31 am in reply to: Elfman week-end at Paris Philarmonic (Sept. 19) with potential new concert work #98850DannyBiker

No mention of any new concert work so that might have been a misunderstanding.
I’ll be there, tickets go on sale this Saturday.

ParticipantMy guess is that it will mostly be a Bacon score with some light Elfman contributions to maintain his legacy on the franchise.
Following my opening statement above, watch me being proven wrong in 4 months.

ParticipantSo with these two clips, I think we can already say that that theme will stick easily in our heads.
I’m still absolutely not convinced about the project and “modern” Burton’s abilities to do something with it but I have faith in this score.

ParticipantI’m not really into Disney releases in general…is it really abnormal?

ParticipantOr start a 30 days Amazon Prime trial if you can.
Edit : and it’s also available on most streaming platforms.

ParticipantNo word on the soundtrack yet; weird isn’t it ?

ParticipantAlso available a bit cheaper on Amazon.de for the rest of Europe… 😉

ParticipantI doubt it honestly. I even doubt they will bring back any of his themes…

ParticipantCD in Europe from my research. I could preorder it from a local webstore that does not do digital.
Great news and right at the same time as Dumbo; quite the feast after several light months…
DannyBiker
ParticipantYes I did, but I’m a getting a 404. I’ll tweet them…
DannyBiker
ParticipantSo…anyone managed to listen to the audio ?

ParticipantThanks, great find !
Is it me or that podcast player does not work ?January 2, 2019 at 2:19 pm in reply to: Who did what? A comprehensive (?) list of contributers. #98777DannyBiker
ParticipantYeah, I don’t get it really. Sure there is the money question but having the sequel handed to a close collaborator is far from unusual. Nobody would have cared if it was publicized as co-composed.

ParticipantI really wonder how much music Elfman wrote for the trilogy in total and if it’s even 50%.

ParticipantI’ll pass personally, although I might regret it. Crossing my fingers for a Paris date…
DannyBiker
ParticipantEh…it feels so bland. I’m also not a fan of the photography, it looks like any other Disney remake really : dull and filled with cg. I fail to see Tim Burton in any of these images…

Trailer later today.Weird to see Mike Higham’s Music supervisor credit before Danny’s…

ParticipantWell yes, complete scores tend to be bootlegs for a long time before getting a proper release but in this case, the structure and content really looks like the one from an official release. I really hope it’s not actually Lalaland’s work that leaked months before the release.
I’ll buy it anyway of course. Gotta keep on the collection…
