It’s a more troubled take on ‘Making It Real’ from Darker.

ParticipantAs per usual, two Elfman cues on the soundtrack. No word on a score release yet.

ParticipantI love the Batman tease in ‘Batman on the Roof’, though I wish he would’ve used the fifth note more than just that one time in ‘The Final Battle’. Those bells (?) at the start also remind me of the main titles to Batman.
I still feel like the recording is really off at points, though. ‘The World Needs Superman’ and ‘Home’ sound especially off.
Those two action cues are insane. It’s a shame that the longer version of ‘The Final Battle’ omits music from the shorter version: it makes losing that version impossible.

ParticipantWell, if you think it’s being overpraised you should put some of the tracks on YouTube and read the comments.

ParticipantI think the ‘Krypton’ cue was tracked in, though I might be wrong.
The unreleased music from the hostage situation didn’t sound like Elfman to me, as Ryan mentioned earlier.

ParticipantTulip Fever (on album) is a solo effort from Elfman.
The end credits of the film credit an additional composer, but I’m confident that’s somebody who was brought in long after Elfman left. If you’re ever unfortunate to see the film you’ll hear someone trying to mimic Elfman’s score, but clearly with next to no budget.

ParticipantToprak, Lindgren and Zanelli are all credited with ‘Additional Music and Arrangements’, but so were Bacon and Lindgren for Alice 2 and that album is all Elfman. We’re none the wiser until the BMI repertoire updates.

ParticipantI have. I notice about a dozen new things each time I listen to it.
The booklet has a lot of neat pictures from the recording sessions.

ParticipantYes, that is the title of the movie. Yes, that is really Joaquin Phoenix and @JonahHill with 70s hair. Yes, Gus Van Sant directs and Rooney Mara + Jack Black co-star. And yes, the film premieres at @sundancefest next month and we're v excited. pic.twitter.com/9YqKYVL5sa

ParticipantHe’s mentioned it a few times while doing press for Justice League.

ParticipantPremiering at Sundance next month (first picture here too).

ParticipantThis was awful, and the music tracking was Wolfman-levels of bad.
Just listen to the score on album and ignore the movie.

ParticipantHopefully recording in June in Scotland(!).

ParticipantThis is going to be huge. Illumination’s track record at the box office is insane, and it’s a beloved story released at Christmas.
Definitely going to be one of Elfman’s highest grossing films.

ParticipantAll the comments were probably abuse…
I saw the movie again (I know) and I really didn’t think the mixing was that bad? Maybe that’s a comment on current mixing trends, but all of the softer cues took centre stage (impressively so, I thought), and cues like ‘Wonder Woman Rescue’, ‘Aquaman in Atlantis’, ‘Spark of the Flash’ and ‘Justice League United’ were mixed prominently too. The big action cues are less lucky, but I could still keep track – bar the big Batman statement.
It’s far from an AoU/Terminator Salvation situation.

ParticipantA proper release of Family Man would be a great way to celebrate…

ParticipantDanny cancelled his AMA.

ParticipantJustice League -> Fifty Shades Freed -> Grinch -> Dumbo
This is the highest profile Danny’s been for a while, and he’s still managing to do smaller films and side projects.
I watched an interview with Alan Silvestri recently where he was asked why he was working less these days, and he said that it’s because he’s getting less phone calls.
On a slightly related note, I really like the score Desplat wrote for the directors’ last film, The Secret Life of Pets.
ddddeeee
ParticipantThis is disappointing at the box office and is getting trashed by critics.
That’s 6 critical duds in a row; hopefully Van Sant’s next movie is more Milk and less Sea of Trees.
ddddeeee
ParticipantI’d probably agree with that, but there’s really no shame in not being as good as Batman, Batman Returns, Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Hulk or Hellboy II.
Actually, I think I prefer it to Hulk. The main titles to that are better than anything in Justice League, but the latter is probably the better score IMO.
ddddeeee
ParticipantThere’s nothing half-assed about this score.
