Descent Into Mystery
Participant25th Anniversary CD? I called it.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantBatman Returns is more dramatic and emotional, so I can understand why someone would prefer it. But I like Batman more because, for Elfman, it’s original. Returns was scored after Edward Scissorhands and the Nightmare Before Christmas SONGS and you can hear a lot of that syle in the Returns score.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantI’ve been waiting YEARS for this!
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantThe rights could have expired.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantLittle Demons, perhaps?
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantWe already know about Batman since you already mentioned it. So, really, that’s pretty much it unless they’re also gonna release a Elfman-Burton collection.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantLet’s see…
1. The Burton-Elfman Collection featuring the ORIGINAL recordings and remastered.
2. Batman and Batman Returns: The Special Edition. Remastered, extended cues, additional cues, alternate cues, and a booklet with behind the scenes information.
3. Back to School Remastered and released as a double-pack with Hot to Trot.
4. Sommersby Remastered and Re-Released
5. Black Beauty Remastered and Re-ReleasedDescent Into Mystery
ParticipantThe Green Hornet makes sense too, but you’d think he would be on The Green Hornet panel and with someone from SONY. So, my guess is that, aside from Batman, it’s some sort of 25th anniversary album. They mentioned Tim Burton, so it’s probably the “Best of Burton-Elfman” album. Steven Spielberg and John Williams had an album like that a few years ago.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantIt ain’t MFADT III
Yeah, we know, it’s a new Batman album. That’s why he’s at COMIC-Con. BTW, how many times has Elfman been to Comic-Con?
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantDanny created new themes for “Big Top Pee-Wee.” Themes that were just as good. So, he probably feels like he can pull it off again.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantRegardless, Danny isn’t the same composer he was 25 years ago. If given the option I’m sure he’d want a clean slate. Besides, this movie isn’t technically a sequel to “Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure” so there’s no reason to re-visit its themes.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantThor, I guess it depends on whether the new studio wants to pay for the rights. Also, remember that sometimes a production company, not a studio, owns the rights. Take “Star Wars” for example. George Lucas is the one in charge. So, regardless of whether he’s making a movie for FOX or a TV show for WB he can do whatever he wants since he owns the property.

ParticipantLatest update
But after Mr. Apatow read these scripts, Mr. Reubens said, “He was more interested in something closer, in the same vein and the same genre, as ‘Big Adventure.’”
What Mr. Apatow wanted, Mr. Reubens said, was “a reality-based world and a linear road movie.”
So that’s the path that Mr. Reubens and a co-writer, Paul Rust, are working along, for now.
So, yeah, Elfman is likely to return. Apatow is a fan of the original, so will try to re-capture as much of the magic.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantI guess Big Top doesn’t count as a sequel. But, nonetheless, it was the first time Elfman re-visited a character.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantHis first movie and his first sequel. Danny has to return. Just for the sake of honoring his early days.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantNo, Tim Burton is not directing.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantThe existing album is ALMOST perfect. We’re missing the cue where Batman crashed through the window at the Museum to save Vicki Vale. We’re also missing the cue for when the Batwing first appears on screen. Add those two plus a remastering and you’ve reached perfection.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantSo, the FULL Batman score. They should have released it last year during the 20th anniversary.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantSo, another moody score that lacks melody?
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantBased on the footage, Danny’s score will be another Mission: Impossible/Kingdom/Wanted type score. I was hoping for some retro-ness, so Danny could use Jazz in his composition. Even if he tried it wouldn’t fit.
