Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantThe plan is to make two more.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantDid Ryan ever post what Elfman wrote about Walker in the B:TAS cd?
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantYes, Williams wrote some wonderful music. And Elfman wrote wonderful music as well for Batman, Batman Returns, Batman: The Animated Series, Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure, Big Top Pee-Wee, Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Men in Black, and Men in Black II.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantIt might be easier to e-mail him an electronic birthday card.
Descent Into Mystery
Participant1. Yes, I know about the Joseph Campbell stuff, but that doesn’t mean George Lucas planned all 6 Star Wars movies in the mid-`70s. He had loose ideas but that’s about it. He made it up as he went along. You can ask Gary Kurtz and Lawrence Kasdan if you don’t believe me.
2. George Lucas didn’t create Howard the Duck but that doesn’t change the fact that he was making crappy movies even before the Star Wars prequels. And let’s not forget the Ewoks movies.
3. No, I don’t like post-Empire George Lucas. Most people don’t. He’s a fantastic business and technology man but a crappy filmmaker. He hasn’t directed a good movie since the original Star Wars in 1977 and hasn’t produced a good movie since Last Crusade in `89.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantGary Kurtz, the producer on Star Wars and Empire has confirmed in several interviews that Lucas made it up as he went along. He had some loose ideas, but that’s it. In fact, the reason Kurtz left after Empire was because he claims that Lucas lost his mind during pre-production of Jedi. Current day George Lucas began with Jedi. Actually…Howard the Duck pretty much confirms this.

ParticipantI didn’t know you lived in Canada.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantYou can find it at Walgreens.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantDespite what George Lucas claims he didn’t think of the Star Wars saga beforehand. There’s enough evidence that Lucas made it up as he went along. So, atleast the Spider-Man series had material beforehand. Still does.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantYes, I know about the naked transportation. However, in the past three movies they only show the people’s butt. Butts ARE allowed in PG-13. Did you see Adam Sandler’s “You Don’t Mess with the Zohan”? There was a lot of butts in that movie and it was PG-13. The scene in question is obviously a full-frontal scene. Secondly, why will there be transportation in the new movie? It takes place in the future! The future in which John Connor sents his dad to 1984.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantBatman was episodic , but not Spider-Man. In Spider-Man we go through the character’s journey. So, Elfman’s music had places to go.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantI see no reason why it wouldn’t be in the ablum. If WB insists on turning Terminator into a PG-13 I am 99.9% certain that there will be a unrated DVD. And Danny is aware of this so he might as well include the track on the album. Plus, if the deleted scene is some sort of romantic and/or sex scene it might be important to Elfman since he loves the more quiet scenes where his music is more in your face. So, that may be extra motivation to include it in the album. Right now…all we know about the deleted scene is that actress Moon Bloodgood runs around naked in the rain. This may be one of those emotional scenes that Elfman loves so much or maybe it’s just random nudity. We’ll find out in May. Either way I think Elfman music will be in that scene. Naked people in the rain seems like the type of scenes that would have music in it.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantHollywood likes violence but not graphic one. They don’t mind a guy getting a machine guy and shooting 100 people. But if one guy gets a knife and sticks it into another guys eye then there’s a problem.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantHe used to be friends with Sam Raimi. Had that not fallen apart he’d be getting ready for Spidey 4 right now!
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantThere’s reports of one scene being deleted. It involves actress Moon Bloodgood running around naked in the rain. I don’t know if it’s supposed to be a love or sex scene or whatever. But if it has Elfman music you’ll hear it in the CD first. As for trims, this is supposed to be a war movie. So I can imagine some violent parts that the studio will want removed. So, Elfman’s music will be micro-edited. If there’s a 5-second scene where a robot cuts someones head off then that’s 5-seconds of Elfman music cut.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantThere’s new Terminator news that’s not about Elfman, but I feel like it affects him. As well all know, Watchmen, under-performed so WB is nervous about another big budget R rated movie. So…they are making McG delete scenes and trim others so they can get a PG-13. Now, how does this affect Elfman? Well…obviously he’s composing an R rated movie. And if scenes are being deleted and other scenes are being trimmed then that means that his music will also have deleted parts and trims. So, when the CD is released in May/June we’ll be hearing music that’s not in the theatrical cut. It’ll be on the unrated DVD, of course. Still…it’ll be interesting to go watch the movie and then buy the CD a week or two later and hear new music. This hasn’t happed to Elfman fans since Spidey 2 in 2004.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantI agree with Spider-Fan. Elfman is a diverse composer, but I also enjoy his variations. That being said…I don’t think Elfman being involved with a long-term franchise will prevent him from being involved with other projects. Williams working on 6 Star Wars movies didn’t stop him from doing other movies. We still got E.T. and Schindler’s List.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantI agree, Spider-Fan. However, it’s still interesting to see what happens next. I highly doubt that Elfman will return, but there is a good chance his theme will be used. So, it’ll be interest to hear what Young (or anyone else) does with it this time.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantYea, we still have a year to go cause of all the visual effects. Burton is combining live-action, motion capture technology, and 3D. So, there’s a lot of work to do.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantBates’ score was the least memorable thing.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantNobody does. They listen to the music he steals. In 2007 there was MAJOR controversy when it was discovered that he ripped off Elliot Goldenhal’s score of Titus for 300. I’m surprised that WB and Zack Snyder hired him again.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantLondon? Awesome!
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantYes, Wanted is the best score Elfman has done since like Spider-Man 2. Secondly, as much as I love Elfman he has been doing this since 1985. At this point there are no surprises. I can almost guarantee that Terminator will be a percussion heavy score like Dead Presidents and Mission Impossible with some Kingdom and Wanted thrown in.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantIt’s possible that Elfman started working on some stuff in November when the release date was changed but I doubt anything was actually recorded.
Descent Into Mystery
ParticipantYou’re not even trying. What do you think Elfman is gonna do? Is he gonna take a “Kingdom” approach or a “Wanted” one or something else entirely? When watching that trailer what do you expect from Elfman?
