I don’t know if anybody here attended the Q&A with Danny Elfman on May 8th, but someone in the audience asked if he could talk about his collaboration with Ego Plum, and Danny seemed to be completely unaware there was one. But he did say that if his brother says he’s doing some music, then he must be doing some music. It’s his older brother, after all.
I just got a Facebook update saying that the box set will be available for pre-order starting tomorrow. Is anyone going to look into it?
Finally got my copy in the mail today. It’s glorious. I can’t wait for them to release “Batman Returns” now.
All of my friends only know who Danny Elfman is because of me. I talk about him and listen to his scores (and Boingo of course) all the time, to the point where my friends get sick of it. But, hey, what do I care? I’m happy.
I love Herrmann, his score for “Psycho” is my favorite thing he’s ever done, with “Vertigo” being close behind it. Of course, his scores for “The Twilight Zone” were also superb.
There’s always one bit of music that Elfman has written that reminds me of Herrmann, and it’s “Stolen Bike” from “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure.” The strings in that piece just make me think of “Psycho” every time and I really love it.
